Blizzard: "We are looking at Retribution as a whole and will have more to share in the future."

The reality is its so easy to make Ret players feel like the Devs are listening.

Increase our mobility and add another viable DR as a start. Literally do those 2 things and players will be like ok, they’re listening.

Remove Divine Steed or reduce it’s c/d. I’d suggest Long Arm of the Law or something like ‘Guided by the Light’ on a 30 sec c/d where we glow like our Charger and our speed is increased by 40% or some sh!t…

Have SoV c/d reduce to 1 min or 40 seconds AND make Divine Protection baseline. I mean why is this even a conversation at this point? We’re holy warriors. Let us be divinely protected.

Rets entire problem is exactly Shamans problem they are a Hybrid class with too many support abilties OF WHICH I’d be fine losing all or half if it meant I could do comparable damage AND have decent mobility or tankiness which I have neither.

Divine Shield is literally just a 1 second breather until one of the 50 priests MD it away in .5 seconds or the 100 warriors shatter throws it instantly.(both which are near impossible to stop).

We had great mobility in Shadowlands give that back thanks 2 10s duration(reduce to 5s)
Chargers.
Freedom either undispellable OR 2 charges.(pvp correlated talents go with it).

Stop making every single ability I have rogue like with HP/combo points for all major abilities feels so gross.
Give us BASELINE AOE that isnt dog water( an no Divine Storm doesnt count) it takes away HP from our only good ST damage ability.

Tbh Im probably in the minority but remove Holy Power off ret or just paladin in general hated it day 1 of Cata its gross an not paladin like in the slightest.

You forgot about Execution Sentence if taken and maintaining blessings. Or the fact that our rotation can change with every Divine purpose proc or BoJ/wake reset. Watching the judgement and BoJ timers if less than 1 second you have to hold the GCD for those to maximize DPS… Oh got a proc? Rotation changed again, you thought you did it right but since you didn’t check the crystal ball for the upcoming proc you actually did it wrong and should have used that DP proc prior to BoJ reset.

It’s 13-14 buttons, at least 4 timers to babysit all game and possible rotation change on 2 different procs granting 3 different abilities each changing the rotation in a different way. While watching everyone’s health pools at the same time for utility while doing all of the normal mechanics.

Baby Sitting Heal Bars, Timers + Button Bloat - Missing Crystal Ball to maximize DPS

While praying mobs stay in the same spot all pull.

I wish i had something to contribute here. Im new to Ret and i cant get over 30k ST dmg in 390gear. Stats are alright. Ive been playing prot forever and was forced to switch to ret. HUGE learning curve. Lots of buttons to push at the right time. Ive seen competent Ret do 40-50k ST, so to me its possible but i am terrible. Ive them them put up big numbers AoE. I would like to get there but im real inefficient at this spec. Its embarrassing.

I would like to see the ret aura do something better than give us wings if someone dies with a 30s cd. What if no one dies? Or ppl die at the same time? Its kinda stupid but better than nothing.

i was like that too i tried going with wowheads single target spec its helped me a bunch of course i also have my two peice set bonus as well.

Man its not often I see this amount of love and support when a ret thread was made. Also everyone dealing with that clown rogue just brought tears to my eyes. You all are wonderful <3

Honestly, consecration and exorcism are garbage. Consecration should at the very least be removed from ret and divine storm should receive a slight buff as compensation for AOE.

I like the idea of concecration working like a buff that ticks a concecration where you stand and remains as you move.

Effectively making it mobile with you and leaving an active consecration trail behind you.

Now talents that affect concecration can be more attractive to ret.

And honestly I feel like it would fit thematically, making the ground we walk on holy.

My issues with the spec are not these.

I completely disagree with the “button bloat” idea of ret. It’s not that many abilities. It’s three builders, 2 spenders, and a 45 sec. cd as your main rotational abilties. You swap the ST spender for the AOE one. And press exorcism every 20 seconds if you’re using it.

It honestly feels on the low-end of number of abilities. Tons of gaps in my keybars unlike shadow, affliction, arms

Eh I disagree.

I played a fury trial and their rotation and cds, even their utility is so damn smooth and simple

With ret there’s too many things to keep track of and line up correctly.

Little bit of management is fine, but ret has too much of it

Builders: Crusader Strike, Judgment, BoJ, Hammer of Wrath, Divine Toll, Wake
Spenders: Templar’s Verdict, Divine Storm, Seraphim, Radiant Decree
Other Damage CDs: Consecration, Final Reckoning, Exorcism

That’s 6:3 or 5:4 for builders/spenders, plus 3 extra abilities. It’s basically at Enhancement level of rotational abilities, coupled with Frost DK buff management (the spec has a ton of temporary buffs, some it needs to track), without the nice design & flow associated that Enhancement has.

7-8 button max is ideal. Consecration being an AoE spender that Divine Storm could replace & Exorcism being a builder that replaces BoJ would be a good start. Divine Toll, Seraphim, and FR should be streamlined down into 1 ability for Ret and the damage/benefits redistributed elsewhere in the kit.

That’d achieve the follow:
Builders: CS, Judgment, (BoJ/Exo), HoW, Wake (if not upgraded to Radiant)
Spenders: TV, (DS/Consc), Radiant (if not taking Wake)
Other Damage CDs: Sera-Reckoning-Toll combined damage CD

And that would bring Ret in line with not being bloated like other specs.

In my book they could scrap Seraphim entirely. We don’t need yet another damage cooldown (that isn’t even synchronized with our other cds). Let FR generate 5 holy power regardless of target count, scrap Divine Toll (although I generally like the ability) because its a bit redundant. Just redistribute the power of Seraphim and DT into our other abilities.

I kind a hate the times where stuff procs and you have to adjust. You’re still at 5, cast a spender, Divine Purpose procs and you stay at 5, cast a spender, down to 2, build to 3, cast a spender, down to 1 because you got Inner Grace or Sanctification throwing Holy Power at you, just for you to build to 3 and try to dump again. If you like the chaos, it’s enjoyable. If you just wanted the expected outcome, it’s a pain. Different strokes, different folks, and all that.

Actually our rotation have bare minimum 15 damage abilities (if we add the damage cooldowns) and that number can go upwards to 23 if specific talents are taken. It is actually insane.

Meanwhile the guy is posting from a Mage, a spec that excels with 6 damage buttons (being generous).

Blizzard literally made playing Ret and Holy Pally like playing a piano. Many buttons to press and extreme finesse needed. Btw, Holy Paladin is the spec with the most buttons to press in the game by a wide margin compared to every single other.

Agreed 200%. Seraphim adds unecessary complexity, doesn’t line up with other damage cooldowns and also contributes heavily to lame one-shot mechanics and should be gone entirely. Seraphim’s power should be redistributed among the other cooldowns.

The game and the spec would be better without it.

If you’re using 15-23 buttons for dps, you’re doing it wrong. The class ain’t that hard. The procs use weak aura or Omni. If you want easy play dh or fury.

No feedback required.

If you love Ret but dislike some of the changes by all means just reroll. Under no circumstances should you contribute to the community in order to improve the matter.

If you’re saying DH is easy you’re clearly not versed in max level classes to be making an assessment on the current state of Ret at max.

I can assure the one who’s doing it 100% wrong is you, unless you are satisfied with casual basic out-world content or LFR runs.

You will not accomplish competitive DPS in any top-end PvE or PvP content if you don’t use your 15 damage buttons. If you refuse to use your entire kit at your disposal you will lag behind significantly and will probably be rejected on any serious content groups you try to apply.
