Blizzard should stop doing fated Seasons, here's why

This is the tweet from a guy that’s in the top 2 guilds of the world.

and it’s true. Fated season makes people less motivated to play.

For me personally fated season is a cop out garbage and lazy way season. WHy not just make a proper end season?

Because everyone is working on War Within. The choice isn’t between a Fated season and a proper season. It’s a Fated season or nothing new at all.

I mean, so by that logic how come the other devs did a proper end season in the expansions that didnt have fated?

This is what Blizzard does now, they just recycle the limited amount of content they can make these days.

I don’t know where their dev time is going these days.

People praised DF for it’s content cadence, but most of the content was just lazy mobile game style content.

They can’t even pump out the stuff they are good at, like more dungeon content and more raids.

I feel like a lot of dev time is being wasted on systems on padding time played metrics.

This i have no clue where is the dev time being allocated cuz its not shown in the games.

90% of the work is art. Art takes a loooooooong time.

I’m cool with fated if I can use my dinar to get the Evoker legendary quest item guaranteed if not well kinda meh about it

I get this, but it seems like the content developers are mired in class balancing, system bloat management and whatever office politics is going on behind the scenes.

There are dev teams that are a third of what WoW has that are producing more content.

no excuse the other devs before them did it as well. :person_shrugging: sounds just like pure laziness to me.

I think Blizzard is just mired in probably a ton of corporate bureaucracy. WoW has felt mismanaged now since the end of MoP. Blizzard is notorious for bad pay and a terrible office culture, it is no wonder their games suck now.

Diablo 4 and OW 2 were just god awful, and I think SL and DF both were very subpar expansions despite the praise people keep heaping at DF.

DF sold so poorly, that they never announced the sales figures.

It is funny listening to the earnings call, hearing the creative buzzwords trying to mask how poorly this expansion has done.

Blizzard is a mess, this is why Microsoft did all these layoffs.

If you take the current team, I bet their mid-level encounter designers can make Molten Core in 2 days. The first day is generic paper designs and implementation. The second day is to check for bugs in custom code. (Whether or not it’s fun and unique is a different issue.)

But watching cubes fight each other is rather uninspiring. So working on art is important, and it’s hardly their job to paint textures. And it takes professional artists months to complete their projects. And projects might take as many as several years to start and complete.

You seem to be confusing the entire WoW department with a specific team. The encounter designers aren’t 100+ strong. It’s like… no more than 15 designers and managers combined. (Figure 1 raid boss per designer, plus managers.)

They literally do not work on class balance, systems, nor whatever politics you think happen. The first Fated season in Shadowlands was made by literally a handful of people across several teams. Everyone else is working on TWW right now, as they did back in Shadowlands for DF’s development.

the person touching only a single part of the content complains that theres nothing to do.

Man you drank all the kool-aid on this one.

8.3 tells us that the choice isn’t fated or nothing. 8.3 was by far the best part of BfA and it even had a brand new system attached to it. You people screaming “it’s fated or nothing” are just boot licking poor ol Blizzard.

It’s fated because you guys ate that lazy no effort garbage up in SL. It just means they can fire more devs because they don’t need to work for the final nine months to a year of an xpac. Our last major patch was in Nov 2023, our next major patch will be 11.0 between August-November 2024…

You’re right. So lazy. I prefer the way it used to be where we literally got nothing for 6 months to a year. /s

These threads are ridiculous. Giving us something to do isn’t a cop out. It’s an improvement over the way they used to do it.

i honestly dont know how people like you can play this game when they hate it that much. devs told us they use the fourth season to produce content. im not going to go and look for the lie behind it all. if i dont like it i unsub. if i like it ill keep playing. what is the problem here?

Don’t take gaming advice from professional gamers. It’s a game. Your only concern is whether or not you’re having fun. Those players most likely dislike the Fated season because it’s rehashed content, but they specifically want to compete in RWF-style events. There’s nothing for them to solve, so it’s much less fun.

The option for S4 versus a 1-year S3 is the concern. A huge number of players take a break towards the end of an expansion regardless of what Blizzard adds to the final season. They want new content, and making TWW is the new content they want.

I’m not confused at all. They have x number of developers available, and many game developers can be used in many different roles. The WoW team has mismanaged these resources a lot over the years.

Imagine if they weren’t mired in trying to balance the bloated gimmicky systems they try each expansion, or trying to fix the classes that they seem to rework every expansion, they could be using this dev time to make actual content.

Source for any of this?

These problems have been plaguing the game since it launched. Blizzard has been terrible at releasing content at a decent clip. There are MMOs with a fraction of their budget and development teams that put out the same or more content.

Where did I complain that there wasn’t anything to do?

There were a few times that “proper end season” lasted a full year.

yeah people seem to forget 6+ month seasons and how dead the game felt by then.

relevant content isnt magicked out of thin air. forum complainers literally have this complaint in every game. its always the same type of people. they do one type of content and everything else is garbage or stuff they dont even realize they have.

we have had a full remake of the crafting system. three story branches have been concluded. the story is set to move forward in the next expansion with a clear break for everyone. but " devs are wasting time " lol

also some dumb donkey thinks rebalancing classes that are literally suffering is apparently a waste of time. we should just leave em in obscurity.

they talk about borrowed power when theres literally none this season. i dont know if they are literally not playing or are just too dumb to realize we are in a new expansion past shadowlands already.
