Blizzard said they would "prefer that healers spend their time healing" during an interview with Morgan Day

Trying to bar healers from entry to groups due to your own game design philosophy doesn’t add anything positive to the game but It’s understandable that you would think your way is right since many people are toxic without even being self-aware enough to realize it.

If the group isn’t taking any damage, the healer should not be effectively dead.

This topic seems to be a prime example of someone not understanding the “healers should dps” stance from the start

If you need to heal then heal. Literally no one is telling you “STOP KEEPING ME ALIVE AND START PUMPING”. The actual point is that, when you have no healing to do then stop standing around twiddling your thumbs and cast a Smite or two

it’s not my goal to add something positive to the game. it’s my goal to add something positive to the group

and a healer who doesn’t contribute in their down time is not a positive addition to my group.

as long as the tank doesn’t die, it’s all gonna be okay

As someone who main’d a healer for a long time and plans to do so again. Yes, I vastly prefer to spend my time healing. If I wanted to DPS, I will play one of my DPS. I have a team to care about healing, I dont want to risk being distracted to pump numbers.

Yes, I do DPS is there is no one to heal. But I would rather the fight to be designed in a way where I am constantly healing and I dont have to worry about DPS. Healing is a different playstyle from pumping damage. I want to focus on the playstyle I wanted to play.

Yes but you’re expecting people to know the bare minimum of an argument before talking about it.

It should put a plug it it… Because what is pretty obvious to me is if healers don’t spend time healing… Blizzard will ensure we spend time healing and do things like… oh… a 40% across the board increase in damage.

I think trying to bar 4 innocent players from having a healer who actually enjoys their class fully is the more egregious crime.

I think ultimately playing with players who play like you is the best thing for everyone on both sides of this janky debate.

I went into this thread knowing that this guy is leaning hard into his troll persona. :dracthyr_no2:

If you get hired to do a specific job like, say, wipe the tables down and clean the floor, and you only end up doing that about, say, 30% of the time, there is a problem somewhere.

You can absolutely do the other things and help out in other areas in your down time, as you absolutely should.

But if you don’t need to do your job, then your job is redundant and not really needed, is it?

Same thing for dungeon roles, really. Healers should heal, that’s what they signed up for. They should encourage DPS in their downtime, but that should not really make up the significant part of what they are in the group for to begin with.

Maybe thats what Bliz wants. They might not want players doing +30 mythics.

I am still trying to tell myself that Mythic+ is a trend that will die any day now…surely…

keep dreaming, that’s all it will ever be

As much as I am not a fan of Mythic+, it is totally here to stay.

Obviously the concept of being useful instead of standing around doing nothing, all while filling one’s role, is too hard of a concept for some to grasp.

These the same people that would prefer we not play demo?

Sounds like a issue for the pug world to me. I hope blizzard dont nerf the game around pug groups… join a guild if its so painful

nothing is too hard for me to grasp, things being hard only makes things easier to grasp

You would prefer fights to be designed so you have to constantly use every GCD to heal or someone will die?

I’m going to guess that the lazy healers would not like that game design either.

But don’t worry, if we do end up with that type of fight design no one will expect you to DPS.
