BLIZZARD: Put the portals back. Good grief

Everybody in this thread needs to stop talking about the Dalaran hearthstone right now. lol

Sorry to say it but if you log off for 30 seconds or less of extra travel then you are ready to take a break. This change has been needed as portals we’re growing out of control with each new expansion.

You never needed to do that in legion regardless (and arguably even in WoD). All you needed to do was take the portal in timeless isle and then fly from gorgrond to your garrison. Then just set it up there. Whatever replacement they just put in (recently I presume because I have a garrison HS on all alts) was unneeded and already had an intuitive solution.

Back in my day, one of the first things you did on a new alt was get a port or summon to Shattrath to set your hearth there. This was fine for years, as our alts moved to Dalaran and then Shrine instead. Somewhere along the line, some idiot decided that we needed to waste time traveling again to “make the world feel bigger”, despite us having the ability to quickly travel around for the vast majority of the game’s life.

I remember playing in vanilla and having to wait for the boat/zeppelin before hopping on an FP that was probably long enough for me to take a quick nap on. It wasn’t any more fun or immersive - it was awful and we only put up with it because we didn’t know any better.

This is one of the reasons that I also suspect that classic isn’t going to be as amazing as people are expecting it to be. Spending half an hour traveling to some remote corner of the world was not fun, and neither was being stuck somewhere with 30+ minutes on your hearthstone. That stuff was fine when I was 17 with no job or responsibilities, but I have zero desire to experience the days of spending an hour assembling a Mara group and then another hour getting everyone there.

It’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference between “Buggy” and “Working As Intended”.

It’s not just 30 seconds here and there. It’s minutes added to often run legacy raids. ToT, HoF, SoO, DS.

And for what? Do we “get” anything for the added inconvenience other than drool on the keyboard as we fly over ancient content we’ve seen hundreds of time?

It ruins immersion by boring us into doing OTHER THINGS while we wait.
