Prefix, I didn’t play wow for most of 20 years. Finally, I decided to play. Now I’ve found out some content is inaccessible, and even the content that isn’t is kind of confusing to handle. Example Battle for Undercity is missing. So I can play before, and after, but not this very important thing.
I’ve found out that in order to keep things on track you have to talk to NPCs Chromie and Zidormi… Chromie won’t change all of the world phasing (i’m told the word is).
The cheapest for you might just be to put the older servers up permanently. I’m a dev, I’ve been an admin, 20 year old server daemons aren’t costing you much to keep online and secure from hacking. Especially not, as it seems that there’s some shared code with retail still. Not enough population? I mean you keep diablo 1 battle.net up still right? not enough for raids. This would require work… but you could make in game merc npc’s that people could hire for dungeons/raids and boost gold to buy them.
Another fine option for me would be to set it up more easily, as following. Currently when I go to play there’s the mists of pandaria remix. Just do that permanently for each expansion. Doesn’t have to be anything special. Create character, select burning crusade → phasing and quest content set appropriately; etc. Would this require a bit, maybe even a lot of work? probably. The game areas should probably progress then not by my level but by quest completion… I’m ok if there’s a manual option, or a prompt to change it though.
I don’t care about mechanics, vanilla classic is more grind than I want as far as hard. SoD seems about right. I haven’t figured out retail’s level of challenge for this older content yet. I guess if I’m playing for narrative though I feel like maybe I shouldn’t whine about ease of play… for me the more important is access to in game narrative.
Oh, and I’m going got smack the next person that says youtube. If I was trying to watch tv… not play a video game. Come on guys!
This is by far the most frustrating experience I’ve had for an old game in a long time. I’m sure there are games out there that are just broken. completely unplayable, but this isn’t that, it’s just designed in a way that you can’t start at the beginning and move forward.
