Blizzard Needs to Compensate for the DDOS Attacks

For the past several weeks/weekends there have been heavy DDOS attacks. People have lost mythic keys, delve rewards, and overall general gameplay time when they may have precious limited time to play.

Being constantly disconnected in the middle of a mythic key is extremely frustrating and typically can brick keys depending on the level. When do we get compensated for these? How do we get compensated for these?

Blizzard, you know these are happening and when they are happening I’m sure you move to address them but you’ve had plenty of time to potentially cultivate server protections for this, especially since it seems to be specifically targeting certain servers while others remain unaffected.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that some sort of compensation is due for the time lost, the bricked keys, the loot lost from delves which also means the key that was consumed and now lost, and much more.

If you’re experiencing connection issues wouldn’t you just wait until it’s done?

People doin’ keys just fine.m

Furthermore if the DDOS leads to player rewards wouldn’t that just encourage more people to DDOS?

No, silly spacegoat. You must continue trying to get your key done, even risking the brick and depletion, regardless of the DDOS so you can complain later about how Blizzard didn’t do anything to help you.

Stop providing common sense. /S

But you are very correct… rewarding any type of compensation would actually increase the amount of attacks.

You’re right.

I see the light (like even better than I already do cause y’know).

The issue is that players don’t know there is a DDOS attack until after the key has already started.

Can’t just pause the key and get it back without losing a key level.

But you don’t ever do mythic plus so you aren’t aware of how key depletion works.

I understand it just fine. But you’re right I haven’t done any M+ this season.
Y’all should ask the Classic team to convince the other teams about this, because they keep restoring dead Hardcore characters lost to DDOS attacks.

Okay so maybe an actual conversation can be had about this that’s constructive. But people definitely aren’t getting keys done just fine. I’ve had a few 10s bricked because of them so far since it’s been ongoing. So your personal experience/friends experience doesn’t equate to everyone’s experience.

And yeah I guess reward/compensation isn’t the right route to go so we don’t encourage the attacks, but ideally something should be done. Like possibly putting in safeguards on the servers?

I agree on resurrecting hardcore server toons that are DDosed but I don’t think bliz should replace items.

As you know I am not a huge blizz fan from past posts , but I feel if blizz starts rewarding items , people will DDOS on purpose to get free stuff and it will only escalate the problem.

Would that they could store and icon that would put your old group back in the dungeon for a rerun, I would be in agreement .

I’m going to go ahead and respectfully disagree on that one.

Have a lovely day, though!

I agree on more safeguards/prevention and maybe more punishment? I don’t how the justice side of that would work.

How about this?

Blizzard protect their servers better so that DDOS attacks aren’t possible?

What a concept, right?

Yeah I have zero clue which is why I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt by acknowledging that they’re probably trying to fix it the moment it starts but who knows.

So, something that isn’t possible?

These types of DDOS attacks are notoriously difficult to defend against which is what makes them so effective. Even Microsoft’s top-tier DDOS protection has failed to keep them safe from attacks the past year.

The best they can do is try to mitigate them, which they do, but it takes time.

I mean it boils down to clicking on a link and whenever you have a link people can overwhelm it.

I am not a software programmer , so I don’t know how you can allow some people and deny undesirables.

I realize the compensation part probably/is flawed since it would encourage more attacks. I am leaving the post title the way it is though since I admit it’s not the best verbiage.

You can’t. All one can really do is spend the GDP of a small third world nation on bandwidth and redundancies and pray.

Oh wait, you’re serious.

You’re not an expert. You are just some random person posting on the wow forums.

Thank you for your input, though. It was definitely valued very highly!

Have a lovely day, friend
