Until Ion moves on nothing will change.
No you don’t actually get both unless you got some way to guarantee the hardmode untimed “death counter” dungeon is at least as difficult as a mythic+ dungeon.
And I GUARANTEE that you can’t because the only way that comes anywhere near is to make every mob so brutally overtuned that you can’t even cooldown brute force your way through it thus turning the dungeons into a kiting meta where the optimal strat is 2 tanks taunting and running and/or with misdirects to assist with that so the mobs never touch someone…
Which once you get high enough keys already kinda become where once your defensives are through you are kiting mobs with the help of the group to survive.
Mythic+ demands you to take risks and do multiple pulls at once which always will be more stressful and difficult than CCing everything and wittling down a punching bag one mob at a time…especially when the group has the option to sit around waiting for cooldowns. Good luck getting anything less than the most left of bell curve dedicated group to do that in a key.
The alternative is the mode drops inferior gear which is basically what delves are now. 1-5 man go at your own pace mini dungeons
Nothing fundamentally needs fixing.
You personally not being able to climb to the top is not a gamebreaking issue.
WoW players in a nutshell.
The only way they would work is if they had tons of affixes in them. Which is what I would propose.
You could have it actually be random too since there are so many retired ones.
Every ARPG I play or have played recently has affixes in zones, dungeons, crucibles, maps, whatever you wanna call them.
I see what you mean with the death counter. Its a solution, likely not THE solution. But honestly, right now it feels more like a death counter mode with one-shots and the actual time not being a factor.
High deaths are bricking pug keys, not going too slow.
If thats the only solution, I guess today’s MMO dungeon running isnt for me then. I want a bit of a challange and to feel like im doing something. I don’t want to resent gamers more and more everyday because of a clearly broken system.
If I want to play Elden Ring Ill play that lol.
It isn’t a solution though. If you want engaging small scale content then run t11 delves. It is essentially what you want. Contrary to belief, T11 delves will absolutely kick your donkey every way to Sunday ESPECIALLY if you go in disrespecting it and the danger it represents.
But a t11 delve is NOT mythic+ and never will be mythic+ because you don’t have a timer which means you always have the option to take your time and wait out cooldowns. You claim mythic+ runs fail because of dying and eating up the timer which is true…but why are people dying? It isn’t because groups are pulling 1 pack at a time and getting beat down by mechanics because if you pull packs 1 at a time, you aren’t timing the key either.
People die because you are effectively forced to roll pulls and often pull 2+ packs at a time and not only do you got all that incoming unavoidable damage but you introduce the massively increased likelihood casts go off and/or mechanics go off that kill people. It is fundamentally different than any delve or “hardmode dungeon” where you can CC mobs and go safe and slow.
You’re free to believe modern dungeons/WoW isn’t for you. I’d agree it isn’t a typical game anymore. WoW fancies itself a tryhard action game or at least you quickly reach a gear and content wall if you aren’t willing to go into that content.
No it doesn’t.
These are all actually really good points. Damn.
I guess they got a Heroic crests to Gilded crests exchange sooo lol, delves it is.
How dare you.
+2-8 keys are harder than 10s. M+ doesn’t even make sense.
If you have 4 friends there is no content wall. The difference between pugging and not is like being on the ground vs being on the summit of Mount Everest.
I don’t think any of it is balanced. It’s not a typical game, it’s an imbalanced one.
M+ has been a fine addition to the game and should never go away. However, the direction m+ has been going lately is awful. And honestly, I think it extends to raid as well. Blizzard pays way too much attention to the top top end when designing things. Last expansion ended with vdh trivializing interrupts and being immortal and somehow this expansion we have a great deal of small interrupts to deal with and tanks being very mortal.
I’m tired of pretending I didn’t enjoy m+ way more in bfa or legion where a player could hit max level on a character and as a joke me and some guildies could bring them into a 13 or something and have a grand ol time. Nowadays I’m scared to bring the same player into an 8 on their main. I hate dealing with interrupt rotations, I hate having to do defensive callouts and watch people die anyway because we did a guild key and brought in someone who does good raid damage but doesn’t do many keys. I hate what m+ healing has become, healers and their group should be rewarded for not taking damage, not punished less it’s not relaxing playing a healer anymore and I don’t dare make a “healer dps” set this expansion because it’s a recipe for disappointment.
The mental load of m+, and yes also raid has been rising way too high for the games own good. People will cry about wanting the game to be easier, but at the same time use 20 different addons and weakauras to better process whatever is happening in a key. I don’t want to curate my weekly key like it’s a job interview, I don’t want to be scared to play alts because we actually need all the firepower we can get to avoid having a prog experience on farm content.
The point where m+ is tuned right now is awful, weekly keys were so so so so so so much better when I didn’t have to care too much about who was in my group when doing them, especially late season. And the best part is people would be doing degenerate push keys anyway even if they weren’t catered to, same as mythic raid.
Also, if I see one more boss where the healing mechanic is put a magic debuff on two players at once and the magic debuff is “tick for 1/4 to 1/2 their health every 2 seconds also explodes when dispelled” I am done, dispels are one of the worst mechanics left in this game, lets burn a global to deal with a mechanic while the fight continues around me, and the global is best used by a dps, but it has to be a warlock who is forklift certified in using an imp and knowing how to dispel and also doesn’t exist because warlocks aren’t super meta to begin with. But since you don’t have that in your group you are healing hard mode and people will mess up on other mechanics and probably wipe you while blaming you.
I think that’s why the healer kept dying in the +3 Siege I did last night. Couldn’t handle the double debuff dispel on last boss. Meanwhile the debuff is just chilling on me doing zero damage, stagger is mitigating all of it.
Or use CC and pull packs piece by piece.
That type of mechanic is just miserable to deal with. And if I understand correctly its coming back with theater of pain. I swear that mechanic type has been in at least one dungeon per season since dragonflight s1 and I am over it.
PREEACCHH.
The comment about needing addons to know what is going on is so on point. We need more and more every expansion despite what they say. Especially for raid. It’s not I don’t want M+ to be chill, but it should be a fun semi-challenge weeknight with friends like I mentioned. Save the Elden Ring content for the sweats doing +17s lol.
I will say, small and insignificant to the greater picture, but have you seen the new swirlies for 11.1? Great step forward but still MUCH MUCH more to tackle.
I don’t think flexing being good at something that is designed poorly is really a flex but that’s just me.
Thanks for your post. Anyway I gotta go to work, hopefully I dont get permabanned when I come back lol
Why not just do lower key levels?
They have dispels and interrupts on complete lock down. They won’t give any out, they won’t give one spec more than one, they won’t give a spec with zero one, they do not care at all lol.
If anything they just keep nerfing dispels into the ground.
Mythic tier mogs (from catalyst) and I just like the satisfaction of “beating the season” = being max ilvl. I care less about IO score, but still care.
You get the Mythic appearances at 5/6 Heroic upgrades.
