Blizzard loves and hates certain classes

Blizzard loves Paladins. Blizzard hates Monks.

It’s funny to see some specs, like the Brewmaster Monk, being the worst tank spec for the third consecutive expansion (in all seasons!). Meanwhile, Protection Paladin, which was bad for just a few days, got two reworks and is now the best tank in the game. It’s amusing to see the stark difference in love Blizzard shows for some specs.

And there’s a problem here: popularity. Blizzard might not pay attention to Monks like Windwalker and Brewmaster because of their lack of popularity. But don’t you agree that if the spec were stronger, it would naturally become more popular? Just remember Shadowlands, when Windwalker was strong because it buffed Rogues, which were meta at the time. Many people were playing Windwalker because of that. If you want popularity, just make the spec viable. Brewmaster is currently unplayable in pugs above +13. If you don’t have communication with your group, it’s simply awful, painful. Meanwhile, for other tanks, it’s like a walk in the park.

You get an instant invite when playing other tanks, but as a Brewmaster, it feels like you’re playing the worst possible DPS and nobody invites you (hello, looks like Windwalker here—how curious, isn’t it?).

Windwalker is currently the third-worst DPS in raids, only ahead of Augmentation and Fire Mage (which, by the way, has two other specs that are ridiculously strong). In Mythic+, it’s one of the worst, if not the worst. And Brewmaster is only decent in raids; in M+, it’s laughably bad.

Blizzard loves some classes (and specs) and hates others.

A buff to Monks would be more than welcome, as would buffs to other classes (and specs) that also need them.

See, this is what I don’t get. Monks have been put in a spot where there currently are -zero- specs that are really wanted for pve groups yet the class is ignored because its unpopular. Blizz has created a feedback loop for the class where there is no way for it to get better. I know that pvp is different and they aren’t doing so badly but wouldn’t it be better to just make certain talents pve only or reduce their healing in pvp?

I mean, I like Chromie and whatever else random thing is being put in game but I don’t think it should be at the expense class balance.

they hated pallys for a long time. its our time to shine lol.

Monks were always doomed to unpopularity because they are exclusively pandaren themed.

They can’t balance stagger. So completely rework this class and remove stagger from it.

They hate us 'cuz they ain’t us!

They love druids. I don’t blame them. Druids rock. Who doesn’t want to be hi-five-able and huggable, and snuggleable, and multi-making-murderable?

Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.

Mistweaver is pretty strong. The other two are pretty weak lol.

Paladin and monk are 2 classes that offers the same thing 3 specs with 3 different roles.
One is the most played class the other the least played. Now think… which one do you think needs love the most?
Even if Brewmaster and WW are OP for a whole expansion in PVE content, its never gonna be as popular as paladin, so I dont think buffing monks would cause negative impact in the game since the playerbase is so low.

What is Blizzard waiting for…

MW is stronger than the other two. I’ll give you that. But unfortunately like other flavors of monk, it’s still is lacking the utility compared to something like paladin that makes all specs of them have a good chance of being wanted by groups.

The numbers don’t lie. There is a reason why people aren’t choosing to play this class and it’s not because everything is fine as it is.

What utility is it lacking exactly?

Resto Shaman and Disc > Mistweaver.

All tanks >>>>> DK > Brewmaster.
Most dps >>> Windwalker > Rogue Subtlety.

Is that why Paladins were mid tier (at best) to garbage tier (most of the time) from Cata until DF?

For raid MW is missing a decent raid cooldown. Revival has been nerfed so heavily that groups don’t even put it on the cooldown list. It just doesn’t heal for enough. Mystic Touch is not that important because most damage is no longer purely physical and groups that want it will only bring one monk since all flavors bring it.

For M+ it is missing either bres, lust or some other group buff that people think is worth bringing. Most groups will not run without bres and lust so that in itself works against us trying to get into groups. Mystic Touch just doesn’t cut it here either. It needs to be something better than that.

This stuff has been a problem for a long time and it’s the reason why MW’s are only considered good in Seasons where their hps is bustedly high. They just don’t bring anything else to the table.

As for the class in general, all specs seem to suffer from button bloat and overly complex rotations that don’t result in any gain for the amount of pain. You have to press like 10 things compared to 4 for some other class and still only do half the damage or struggle at tanking even if you know what you are doing.

We should all take Blizzards lead and forget about Monks.

I don’t play a monk anymore because they are a shadow of their former selves. I loved them at their launch. Brews/tea for all specs, chi, etc. They got homogenized and have never felt the same. It’s sad because I loved them in MoP and WoD

Sometimes I think Blizzard is tired of the popular longevity that is the hunter class. In spite of itself.

I really remember lolret days because that’s what I was playing
