Hello,
yesterday my internet connection was activated by my new ISP. Have canceled my old ISP because I had issues playing WoW. Somehow I had unbearable ingame delays for pressing my abilities, there would be delay of 0.4 to 0.8 seconds.
However this was inconsistent as sometimes abilities would go off just normally.
After the change of ISP this issue seems to persist, so I wanted to test with Looking Glass again.
Unfortunately I receive an DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error. Somebody knows more?
Hey there,
The Battle.net Looking Glass site was shutdown and it is no longer available I’m afraid.
We recommend using WinMTR, traceroute, or pathping for connection tests.
WinMTR will show the most information so that is preferred when looking for packet loss or high latency issues.
Okay thanks. The problem with these three tools is that they never have shown any indications of connectivity issues.
This is due to the fact all of them working in upload direction. My suspection though is that my problem is caused by download packet loss, that means not the packets from my Home Network travelling to the game server but the other way around.
Is there another way to measure for download packet loss? With WinMTR, traceroute and pathping I can only calculate upload packet loss.
There’s no way other than the looking glass, unless they make it functional again.
Probably worth posting a winmtr if you have it just to see if anyone spots anything.
WinMTR works roundtrip, and should be helpful unless you’re on IPv6*. Then you would want to use PingPlotter.
Is it? Well this confuses me even more then.
I wrote a thread in the german WoW forum several months ago but nobody had a clue there as my WinMTR were inconspicious.
However the looking glass could always reprodcue the packetloss at the hop after my router. This made me believe that the peering between Blizzard’s ISP and mine is the cause, but now that I changed ISP makes me wonder if my PC might be the cause.
Edit: In the meantime I even tested a VPN (NordVPN) to see if a different routing would change the result. Indeed the looking glass would show no more packet loss but I still would experience ingame delays.
Edit 2: I think I will upload a YT video showcasing my problem.
Edit 3:

I uploaded a brief showcase of my problem. Starting at 0:34 you can see when pressing my Hot Keys there is a delaying, which is noticeable through the yellow frame around the Hot Key.
Generally in Dungeons or while Raiding this is much more severe than shown in the video.
Edit 4: Today I tried to update my LAN chipset driver (Intel I225-V) and something astonishing happened. I wasn’t able to connect to any online game but could connect to Internet web sites.
Been researching a bit and found out that there are tons of problems with these Intel Lan Chips. NIC is ordered and should arrive tomorrow.
Something else to keep in mind about WinMTR is that it only sends one packet per second, which is slower than the game tick rate.
I’m glad you’re on to something with the NIC, hopefully that solves things going forward.
So it’s pretty useless in my case.
Changing the NIC did nothing. So I am officially out of ideas what the hell is causing the mess.
I don’t see a previous thread from you about this issue, maybe it was under another character. Either way, it might be related to something on the PC causing a hiccup, or maybe a Windows setting. Can you add a DxDiag?
There is no previous thread in the US forum. The original post is in the EU forum.
Sure I can add an DxDiag

However my system language is german. So I hope you can draw all necissary information out of it
Edit:
Here are the WinMTRs for all three european servers.

The connection does look good. I think you should be looking at the errors from these:
- Microsoft Windows.NetworkDiagnostics.4.0
- NoiseCancelingEngine.exe
- lghub_updater.exe.
The first one sometimes happens when you have Ethernet plugged in and also have Wi-Fi turned on. The second one is part of the ASUS Armory Crate, which is often the culprit for frame loss and delays in WoW and other Blizzard titles. The third may benefit from an update.
Okay, I deleted Logitech GHUB (gaming mouse software) and disabled NoiseCancelingEngine my task scheduler. No difference so far.
However I am not sure what do with
In my Windows Network options I do have Wi-Fi entirely disabled. I deactivated the respective adapter, so there should be no interference.
Okay, if you want to add an MSInfo I’ll look at that, or you can open a ticket with EU support and have them look at it. Also, have you checked the temperatures with HWMonitor?
CPU temp is never above 55 °C.
Here is my msinfo
https:/ /pastebin.pl/view/eb1062c2
I can’t load that Pastebin, not sure why.
What are you using to check the temp?
I am using HWInfo64.
Let’s test it with google drive.

HWInfo uses averages, which are not helpful. I mentioned HWMonitor to avoid that.
The report has more of the same error.
4/16/2023 10:25 AM Application Error Faulting application name: NoiseCancelingEngine.exe
There may be components of it left behind. Additionally, checking the high point of temps would be a good idea.
In the meantime, open a ticket with the staff if you haven’t already.
Alright, I compared the temps with HWMonitor. Shows up to 10°C more. But still far away from throttling, I don’t see a problem here.

Been looking in my msinfo. No error regarding Noise Canceling Engine in the last two days. I completely deleted in my Prog (x86) folder.
Still no changes though.
Next step is me carrying my PC over to my aunties home and see if it runs in another network. If it does it is obvious that it’s a network issue. Unfortunately I cannot determine the problem if it will not work.
I see some big CPU usage spikes, not sure what’s causing those. What are the GPU temps looking like?
It’s really sad to see Blizzard disabling services as important as LookingGlass. It was one of the few tools available to inquire with ISPs about reverse routing issues.
Please bring the service back.
