All it does basically give a second auto attack
Taking your word for it here since everyone is saying “Ty for less and because I am thanking you for less I anticipate that I will get more.”
And out of those 20 years the spec has been designed to be played without a pet for the majority of it.
Which is why its being removed. Its even more pointless that the water elemental was because atleast the elemental had some interaction with the mages rotation.

I do but it’s also like the easiest thing I’ve ever done next to ret and I enjoyed having my chosen pet in cases outside of dungeons. There were quite simply better options and while I respect that you are grateful for a solution that doesn’t mean it was the best solution.
