Blizzard is censoring harsh words in game now

This thread is hilarious. 1400 posts of people going off their rocker because Blizzard won’t let them use a few words.

Priorities, right?

How is this still going?

People really that defensive over using slurs?

which is probably one of the reasons they had to change the Garrosh dialogue where he called Sylvanas the word for female dog.
…because i saw people in customer support getting suspensions/silences for using similar language, and arguing that if it’s ok for an npc to say it, it should be ok for them to say it too.

but there’s a difference.
the npc isn’t a human interacting with another human.
…and while some might deem it generally offensive, it was never aimed directly at the player in any form.

there was a level of outrage when the line was used.
there was a higher level of outrage when the line was removed.
…but people have forgotten about it now, and every day brings something new to be outraged over

It’s better that people understand free speech and the 1st amendment are different things, and free speech is just a vague concept that doesn’t actually exist anywhere.

You are wrong. Free speech does exist.
You are 100% free to say anything you want to anyone; however, there are consequences to what you say and to whom you say it.

Well shucks I guess free murder also exists, since I can murder anyone I want, there will just be consequences for it.

I’m totally 100% in agreement with this.
If people can’t grow up and control themselves, then Blizzard will do it for them. I’m tired of being in games (not just wow) and seeing/hearing all kind of nasty racist BS come out of the mouth/keyboards of players.

It has zero place in our society, period.

This is a pointless semantic argument. While nobody is going to physically restrain you and prevent your mouth from making sounds, in the US you are not “100% free” to just say whatever you want, wherever you want. As you said, there are consequences to certain speech.

Exactly.

Just because there are consequences does not prevent you from saying it or to anyone or does it stop you from saying it. No one is going to physically stop you from saying anything. You are in fact free to say whatever you want.

You are free to call someone anything you want and they are free to take you to court and get every red cent you own.

You got what you wanted (I’m not saying you in particular just you as in the whomever) and they got what they wanted.

Yes, we understand nobody is going to physically restrain your mouth and vocal chords from making sounds that resemble words.

That doesn’t mean you are “100% free” to say whatever you want, whenever.

Apples meet Oranges.

It is ok, if this gets you through the night as your understanding of how this all works - enjoy.

lol ok

You seem to be able to type in this debate without violating the forum guidelines concerning language. Just do that when you type in game, save the strong language for discord and you’ll be fine.

I am pretty sure they said they uninstalled much earlier in the thread.

So they are fighting for a word when they don’t even play! Welcome to the new GD! Filled with malcontents who pay to forum PvP!

and every day they lose customers because they don’t realize who the majority of their audience is and instead cater to a loud minority.

a lot of the people they cater to don’t even play their games so it is baffling why they listen to them at all.

“people they cater to”?

the only people they’re catering to, are the ones who abide by the rules which everyone agreed to.

if people decide that they can’t agree to the rules, it’s easier for everyone if they just walk away.

You saying the player base as a whole is racist? That everyone uses the “one banned word”?

Fact is most people aren’t even aware of the ban, know why? Most have common sense and don’t use racial slurs. There isn’t a “slippery slope”, are you not aware that the ban of the use of this word is an industry norm?

The thing that gets me most about half the people who are arguing in favor of it remaining is that most say “Well I never use it, but those who want to should be able to!”, how in the world does that make sense to any of you?

Also, I am Canadian, also part of this north American servers. Where some of you Americans seem to think shouting that out is ok, up here it’s handle very differently. I know it’s tough to imagine a world beyond your borders for some of you, I know plenty who agree with the ban and who aren’t hiding behind a piece of paper they clearly don’t understand.
