Blizzard is censoring harsh words in game now

It’s about time.

It’s not just corporate America. A more apt description is polite society. Anyone who wasn’t raised as a racist in this day and age should know better than to ever use that banned word. Corporate America is simply adhering to modern standards. Please quit pretending that this is some bizarre form of mind control that’s coming down from a secret corporate cabal. These policies are a result of better education and increased awareness. Companies are simply codifying current norms.

The hubris on this one. Thinks WoW chat is a polite society.

If it were so polite nobody would use it. Imagine that!

that… doesn’t even make sense.

WTS 3 x this thing

LFM this boss

How do i get to that place?

Don’t stand in the bad, hide when boss does the thing, when boss yells, stack on green circle

…but these aren’t things which can be said in a polite society, and if people are prevented from sending a couple of words to chat, these things can no longer happen?

i want what you’re having. :joy:

He acts like his inability to say racial slurs in game is going to trigger a world ending event…

The amount of self importance he places on himself is just… amazing.

i was wondering how daft are we that we’re continuing to entertain this level of trolling… but then i have to remind myself that people like this actually exist.

Or… it’s a really boring night and we are entertaining ourselves the best way we can.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but at this point I’m leaning on it being a troll. I guess I was suckered in. Oh well.

Some people simply do not understand the concept of Free Speech and the First Amendment. Think of it this way. If someone is at your house and they say something that you don’t like, you have the right to throw them out. This is Blizzard’s house.

I mean if it stays strictly in the realm of blatant racism and hate speech, it shouldn’t be an issue for anyone.

But knowing Blizzard’s politics, there’s good chance there’s going to be a push for more and more restrictive language, to the point its going to even interfere with everyday talk, as language is an ever-evolving thing and people associate double meanings to more and more words. Easy example, the word trap, Hunters use them as literal contraptions meant to ensnare an enemy, it also happen to be a slur towards a certain group of people. So i guess we’re banning Hunter traps?

There’s also the fact that if someone want to say something, he’ll find a way with ascii codes or whatever.

I do agree with you that once Blizzard censors one word, other words will follow.

Let’s censor “horde” because it’s deragatory and delete belves because they put unfair expectations on women.

this is an extreme example, and so much so, that i had to look it up.

i find it highly unlikely that basic common-use words would be added, especially when they’re terms which are already used in the game.

eg:

if people are actively attempting to avoid the filter, the penalties will likely be more harsh than they’d have previously been for simply using the word.
attempting to bypass systems usually comes with a stronger penalty, because it isn’t something which happens “accidentally”.

Guess i spend too much time on Twitter cause it doesn’t feel that way to me, lol.

I am sure US history is well versed on the “blizz censoring some words that have racist history for them” and how much it was impacted.

You do realize that while you have freedom of speech, you don’t have a freedom of platform. You want to say insulting or racist stuff, you don’t get to say it wherever you want, on whatever platform you want. You can say that stuff in your home, and only not be punished by the federal government. There is no such thing as you can say whatever you want wherever you want and not face any repercussions from anyone but the government. Learn what the first amendment actually means

Sorry that your reading comprehension is so lackluster. What you term “Corporate America” is polite society. Where did I say that WoW chat was polite? It’s overrun by teenaged kids, many of whom are thoroughly neglecting their education. Ideally they too will join polite society someday. Until then, the grownups at Blizzard feel a responsibility to keep them from going too far off the rails so they don’t hurt themselves while they’re still learning. Apparently you’re salty about the infringement of their right to act like ignorant d-bags. I have yet to understand why, unless you’re one of those kids.

Paranoia at its finest.

Not just paranoia…the worst attempt at making a red herring to the discussion of words that can’t be used i have seen in some time

its all fun and games until I can’t call the filthy genocidal greenskins what they are.

I remember years ago blizzard already did do things like this. Things said by NPCs in game were allowed but players couldn’t say the same things.

I remember reading some reddit posts from years ago detailing tickets with the player arguing these points.

I don’t have examples as this was so long ago and I never thought to actually save these things. Likely wouldn’t have them still even if I did as I have changed PCs multiple times since.
