Blizzard is censoring harsh words in game now

Lol, oh man. From the wild west to the nanny state in the span of a decade.

Nice.

This’ll generate a decent amount of tears, I bet.

you’re right.
it wasn’t an argument.
it was an observation.

I don’t really understand this move, to be honest.
I was always under the assumption that slurs were banable (if said in general or if reported). Plus, they are blocked by the mature language feature. Seems like they already covered their bases from day 1.
The only benefit I can think of is that this results in less people being banned (and dollars saved) and less tickets for gms to read.

Yeah well, keep on trucking. When you cross certain lines we’ll see what happens.

Actions have consequences, you’ll discover this one way or the other. If it didn’t celebs wouldn’t get cancelled, twitch and youtube wouldn’t flick the switch on streamers etc.

Mostly money saved. Though it’s easy culture points from certain people.

Only one “racial slur” appears to have been added. I think were all ok with removing that garbage from this game. It has no place here. If you wanna be a racist edgelord go be one in your guilds discord OP.

Most people disagree with cancel culture and consider it a negative thing but if that’s what you want to support, then as you said, “keep on trucking”.

Or simp. At least the streamers.

It’s about the road that this leads to, rather than this one word or slur.

It starts with this, and then ends with 9999999999999999 other words, most of which would not be edgelord but because of how sensitive people are now, they would be unable to be called it and cry/have a meltdown should they ever be called anything like it.

It already happens irl especially with cancel culture being as deranged as it is.

For people crying free speech infringement or censorship, free speech is not protected when you’re on private property, in this case, Blizzards servers and intellectual property. Free speech is only protected from the government, and even then there are limitations like inciting violence.

This is not the hill to die on Phoenickz. Simply put, we all agreed to certain things by playing the game. Saying you have the inability to string together a sentence without using offensive language is troubling to say the least. Stopping people from being racist in a T rated video game is not cancel culture its spot on.

Yeah, I have to imagine the money saved on both parties’ end is the only logical reason to execute it. Though, I wonder how much of that was what prompted this change.

Personally, I think having it restricted in general chat, trade chat, and /say is enough. I think a better system is to use reporting for whispers and party chat. Direct communication is where things become more nuanced.

Cancel culture isn’t a new concept. It’s called being fired if you do something stupid. It’s called being held accountable for your actions.

Who said that road was necessarily bad? All I see here is a trend of banning hatred. What is wrong with banning people and words which encourage hatred exactly?

Man I just hope this doesn’t affect Barrens chat in Classic wow

Which is not actually how it works. There are an unfortunately large number of people who get off on using abusive language to offend people. The idea that “this person is free to insult me back in kind, so I should be able to say anything I want” is how a bully excuses their behavior.

And in any case, there is no list of offensive words that you’re safe if you don’t use those words. Insulting people is against the rules whether or not you use profanity or slurs.

Usually, their systems are pushed universally across all platforms.

Free speech is when you get to yell slurs at minorities on the internet.

The more slurs you can yell, the freer it is.

Just as God intended.
