Blizzard: do NOT force TBC on Classic realms, please!

Recently in the Chinese dev interview where they confirmed RP-PVP realms over there, a question was asked about what would happen further down the line, and the response was something like “well we could give you TBC and WOTLK, or we could keep you at 60 forever”

Why is this an either/or thing? Personally part of the draw of WoW Classic for me is knowing that my character progress will be permanent, and that the level of gear I obtain will not be wiped out by the introduction of a future expansion. If 2 years down the line Blizzard decides to introduce TBC Classic and forces Classic realms to be TBC, it would wipe out my progress that I had attained with the assumption that I could continue playing my Classic characters in vanilla content indefinitely. If Blizzard is still undecided on if and how they might eventually implement TBC, then I am NOT interested in playing Classic. I want my progress to be permanent.

If they decide to give us TBC and WOTLK eventually (which I hope they do!) then Blizzard should create NEW TBC/WOTLK realms and either allow us to COPY our characters to those realms or roll fresh characters on those realms. Please, please, PLEASE Blizzard can you clarify that you do not plan on ‘wiping’ our Classic progress by forcing TBC on those realms!

I personally cannot wait for the 30 year anniversary and the re-re-release of WoW classic.

The madmen of blizzard have moved from daily quests to decade quests. you repeat every 10 years.

Couldn’t agree more. Forced TBC or classic+ updates is simply repeating the same mistakes of 2007. And we’d be back to square one; no classic realms. There needs to be untainted and persistent classic realms.

TBC / classic+ should get their own servers. If you are concerned there aren’t enough players to support those servers then maybe the idea is flawed to begin with. Don’t hold classic players hostage, artificially populating a bastardized hybrid server.

There is no way in hell they would do forced progression… think of all the micro-transactions they would lose charging character transfers from Vanilla —> TBC —> WotLK.

I really don’t think anyone would force you to do progression. I mean really? You want to stay stuck at 60? No one is stopping you!

There might be a lot of people, myself included, who would like to see all the way through Wrath, but no further. Just because you want to be sitting on 60 forever, does not mean everyone wants to.

Personally if they ever did a Classic+ route I would want to see horizontal expansions instead of the all the vertical power creep expansions they’ve done.

Blizzard needs a way to practice this sort of design. I’m not a big fan of the idea of Classic+ but if it happended I would want horizontal, shallow but broad expansion.

For all that I would love to play TBC: Classic, I have never once wanted it to be appended onto WOW: Classic. I want separate realms only. I want to play WOW Classic when that suits my mood, 1-60, never changing once it has hit Phase 6. AND I want to play TBC Classic when that suits my mood, 1-70, with nothing overlapping WOW: Classic.

Blizzard would be making a MASSIVE mistake if they chose to implement TBC content on the original WOW Classic realms, and hopefully those with decision-making power know that.

Great, so progress past 60 on your own TBC or wrath server. Don’t punish those of us who just want vanilla.

And actually yes, a TBC update would force me to level past 60. There is no option to turn off experience gains in TBC. So lvl 60’s would be gaining small amounts of experience in raids and alterac valley for example. It 100% would force people to level against their will.

I think we both know that not progressing to 70 wouldn’t be an option.

Think the logical thing to do would be to get an idea what the player base is thinking either through a check box system upon login at time a month or so before the release of either TBC or C+. The smaller number is migrated to smaller servers(ex. Most of the classic server base wanted to move in to TBC or C+. The people who want to remain 60 are consolidated on to 1 of 4 servers pve, pvp, rp, rppvp. And the original servers are then patched with the new content) this keeps both player bases relatively happy as those who want to move on are able to and those who wish to remain are also appeased, while not destroying overall realm population because of the consolidations. Just an idea though.

That’s another thing, if they decide to do realm-consolidation down the line, what happens when 2 characters have the same name? What’s the point of giving us access to character creation on the 12th to reserve our names when it isn’t even a certainty that our names will be permanent? Ughhh

That’s why I said relatively happy. You’re not going to be able to get everything, just never works out that way. So you either get moved to progression server or have to possibly change your name. I guess it’s going to be viewed differently for each person. But I think it’s the option that’s going to cause the least amount of grief long term.

That would completely defy the point of Classic WoW, they would just lose players all over again when it progresses past Cataclysm…

It should be like private servers, have different expansions on separate realms. That’s how you keep the most players you possibly can.

I think it could be really cool to do sort of a horizontal expansion, an extension of vanilla or basically more phases, a tier 3.5 dungeon, tier 4, and add things in pvp and for non raiders like new 5 mans or new zones.

I had a lot of fun in BC and I am sure that I would enjoy it again if that was the route taken, but I never liked how the expansions threw away old content and added levels, but I understand why it was done.

I would not mind expansion exclusive servers, as long as I can transfer my characters for free. If I have to start over again on each one? Well, I suppose I could do that. I am an altoholic anyway. But I really doubt they would do that.

I only started after Wrath dropped. I missed out on the opening of the gate at AQ. I did not get to play out the opening of the Dark portal except through the dungeon “Black Morass”. I would absolutely love to get to experience the Scourge invasion and people dying everywhere and spreading disease. Those one time events are something only those who were there got to experience.

So yes. I would support a server just for BC and one just for Wrath. I think it would be great. Make a new character for each one? Why not? Though if I could copy one of my Classic characters there I would also be happy.

Just copying characters to a new server would never work. The classic servers would be so fragmented at that point they would be almost dead. They will have to consolidate at that point. Which is why I made my suggestion earlier. The downside being some people might end up having to change their character names. Not the first time it’s happened, and I highly doubt it’s the last.

Just because you want to be sitting on 80 forever, does not mean everyone wants to.

Can’t tell me after having all characters geared out for every spec, every achieve etc that you will still be heavily invested in classic at 60. It’s nonsense.

I figure they’re gonna separate retail, BC and classic, or move classic to BC after 4-6 years.

Nothing wrong with it, BC was best expansion, but classic is gonna be a fkn blast
