With the 10% Arcane Sunfury nerf coming mid season and being so massive as to make players want to switch specs / class, it invalidates all the time players have put into their current toons.
With the farming of BIS gear, getting Myhic plus rankings up, Great Vault choices, in game gold spent on BIS crafted gear, has all been for naught now.
This effects many more people than the top 1% of Mythic players that this nerf was really targeting.
This large of nerf in a hotfix and not done on PTR, is appalling. Blizz reverse the nerf as much as needed so as to not be a slap in the face to everyday customers playing this class and spec.

dude the nerfs were perfectly fine, stop being so dramatic

Maybe the way you play is so bad, you can’t tell the difference.
Most players mind going from the top third of dps to the bottom third of dps. Check out Warcraft logs.

ah yes one day of warcraft logs data after a rework. surely it’s 100% accurate and not misleading
You don’t need much time to accumulate data when the nerfs are listed by % points. You can just keep putting your head in the sand, and you’ll be fine.

no they werent
you’re messing with guild balances, with keys that we are working on, they’ve been doing this since july on the same spec over andover
we are on a see saw - its up its down - thsi is not how they should be treating this spec
meanwhile - paladins and monks are obliteraing dungeons and not being touched
blizz hates arcane - they have always hated the spec and never left it alone -

It wasn’t a “rework,” it was a brutal gutting of a spec at the 11th hour before a major patch release that was not tested at all and it had predictably disastrous results. These types of last minute changes fly in the face of PTR testing and all the well established norms around balancing in MMOs.
Even if the devs thought these nerfs were warranted they had to allow for some testing first before making such a massive change, especially given the popularity of the spec and the wider impact on everyone, not just mage players. Any way you look at it, it was a very ill considered and, even worse, an utterly incompetent thing to do.

Deserved because under this mindset you have to be FOTMing to want to switch specs as soon as you get a needed nerf. flavor of the month players get nothing.

Again, you are totally missing the point. It doesn’t matter if it was warranted or not, although it certainly wasn’t, not to this extend. The problematic last minute nature of the rollout is the issue.

You’re still viable. Still doing decent damage and not at the absolute bottom. Have joy for that. Your class dev just flew too close to the sun with all the QOL changes and net buffs you were getting for a spec that absolutely did not need it, I imagine in a week or two you’ll get more changes to put you either in middle of the pack or hell even above again.
This always happens, so it’s to be expected tbh, but it really was a lot.
No they are not fine. Frostfire which was dead last is now pulling better numbers then sunfury, the tuning to arcane (ss) also inadvertently effected frost SS in bad way. Do you even play mage to think these changes are ok?

It’s not just viability. The rotation was massively altered, for the worse. In single target, it’s not so bad, but in dungeon settings, it’s horribly boring and rng-dependent - also traded valuable prio damage for indiscriminate aoe. Looks a little better on damage meters, but is worth much less and is way less fun to play.

Let me tell you a story about the druid in shadowlands that spent all his ashes to build his legendary balance of all things. The nxt week guess what? NERFED to the ground… and that wasnt enough nerfing so they completely gutted it and spit on it’s corpse the next patch with a follow up nerf.

Paladins just got gutted. Like they always do.

Very cogent and concise argument. I admire such lofty genius on display.

The nerfs were quite massive. Just a slight nerf would’ve sufficed like the 5% from spellfire orbs but they went hard and nerfed almost everything. Sunfury is a joke now and now I’ve gotta regear from mastery to crit to be frostfire or spellslinger.

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the lack of proper testing behind these so-called “tuning” changes is a major issue. The recent adjustments have made Arcane next to useless, and honestly, it’s become frustrating to play. Sunfury had potential, but the changes have completely undermined it. I returned for The War Within, excited to dive into Arcane, but now it feels like all the excitement has been drained. These blanket nerfs, without thorough testing or consideration of the impact, are disappointing.
Arcane deserves better. What’s the point of nerfs if they strip away the fun and viability of a spec that many of us were looking forward to? Please reconsider the approach to balancing – testing changes properly before rolling them out would go a long way in keeping the game fun and rewarding for all players.
Mages are a pure DPS class, and as such, we should be performing at the top of the damage meters. Our role in the game is singularly focused, and our viability feels more fragile than any other class. Right now, it feels like we’re being overlooked. Without competitive DPS, Mages lose their purpose, and we’re left feeling like our time is being wasted.

Agree with all those points.
