I’m NOT saying it can’t be done. I believe it can as well.
All I’m saying is we have already had feats ripped from us because Blizz wanted to do something other than games to tell the story.
AQ was a consolation prize for the players. After all the work we did taking down Onyxia and Rag for the comics to turn around and say we weren’t even involved caused a lot of backlash. So, we were given credit for C’Thun’s imprisonment. And there are a handful of other events we as players characters take the Lions Share of the credit for. If a show or movie comes along that takes ANY of that credit away from us then subs will begin lapsing fast. As Player Characters, the Heroes of the story, we take the credit we get personally because there’s always some book or something that gives ultimate credit for most events to Lore characters even though we are the ones putting in the work.
Sure, Blizz could do something like show what could be seen as an “ideal” raid comp for AQ at the time, but not every raid had an ideal comp so there will be those feeling excluded or disavowed. The RTS games are the perfect setting for a show or movie series because WE don’t exist. It’s all about the Lore characters.
As a final thought, let’s not forget that every other game that has been “successfully” adapted into a movie or show are rather drastically different than WoW. With WoW being a single line cohesive story with very little time skips available to tell an original story, if you are going to tell the story of WoW then you have to find a way to cohesively include Player Characters in the story.
