I purchased a faction change from Blizzard on 12/07/2024 to change my dwarf warrior into Horde Dracthyr. After I did so, and logged back in for the first time, my hero talents were broken. It shows that I have 20 available hero talent points to spend instead of the 10 for the 10 slots that are there. So when I put in my talents, it won’t let me save or switch builds because it says I haven’t spent all my talent points, but there’s no other slots! WTF Blizz. This means I can’t change talent builds in any spec, which has left my main character largely unplayable competitively. For those that raid Mythic, and push M+, and/or PvP, you’ll understand how frustrating this is. On my warrior I’ve done all 3 of these at a time any given season.
I started by making a ticket which was promptly answered. We troubleshooted by:
Deleting all addons
Deleted WTF and Interface Folders
Deleted character and restored
Completely re-installed the game and logged in bare
Repeat steps 1-4.
After that, the GM escalated my ticket to a developer whom reportedly logged in for about 2 hours and applied a temporary fix, although we didn’t know it was temporary at the time. Once patch 11.1 hit, the problem reverted and since then I’ve been unable to get the same level of help as before.
I submitted another ticket 2 months ago. I’ve submitted 2 bug reports, responded back to the ticket, and recently have tried to resolve this with negotiation. Really anything.
I’ve spent money on this character, so I don’t really want to start over. I can start over, but I really want Blizz’s help since I’m out real money on a game service. He’s got Fyr’alath in the bank, so deleting isn’t an option. And honestly, I just want to keep the name, too (It’s “Amphetamean”, WoW nickname is Amp.) Is there anyone that can help me get this escalated? In game tickets haven’t proven to be useful and I’m at my wits end.
In your steps that you went through, it seems like there’s a couple missing from the “Full UI Reset” that they’d have you do normally for this kind of issue:
Like, you mentioned deleting the WTF and Interface folders, but what about the Cache folder? Did you also remove any addon manager programs like Curseforge?
I’d also confirm that you’re working with the right folders, WoW has a tendency to litter your whole hard drive with game folder locations and does a shell game with them sometimes, and all the versions of the game (retail, classic era and classic) all have their own sets of folders, and if you’ve ended up with the game installed to more than one location on your drive over time you might be looking at the wrong folders.
Like, my retail client is installed to C:\World of Warcraft_retail_\ but many might have it in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft_retail_\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft_retail_ or a ton of different places. As the game has spontaneously decided to migrate to new and different folders with various patches over time, it has left copies behind willy-nilly.
Overall, it sounds like a UI issue, which unfortunately puts it on your end unless a Blue happens to appear, say they looked at your character and can replicate the issue, so it may be better suited to a Technical Support thread.
Considering he said the devs had done a temp fix in the past on this issue I would say this is not a UI issue. He even said he deleted and reinstalled. The op just has to keep waiting for them to come up with a fix. This is one of those situations that they do not forsee and have trouble finding a easy fix. It can happen with such a massive and complex game, things go wrong.
Found another Reddit post of a similar issue that appears to be unresolved as well, but the issue is that I’ve spent real $$$ and a continuous sub for a game perk that has left my character unplayable competitively.
Surely there’s some sort of compromise in this to where I’m not out the price of a faction change simply while I wait for the devs - again we’re already 7 months down the line. An entire season unable to play a character is a little more than unfortunate circumstances.
The only other option I can think of is to see if there’s some sort of monetary reimbursement until they can sort this out.
I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. I’ve heard of others with this issue, too. It’s heartbreaking to have to wait on a fix and be stuck like this.
Can confirm that when we did both re-installs, we did so by also deleting Curseforge and all folders related to WoW. I didn’t save my WTF or interface as interface.old like they suggest for fear of some sort of corruption, and completely rebuilt my UI twice over.
Hoping for a reply for a monetary reimbursement of some kind. I wouldn’t mind leveling another warrior, but reimburse me for gametime or something for the 7 months of having an unplayable character I spent money on, in addition to the sub!
That’s not very likely, as Blizzard does not guarantee constant availability and a bug-free experience:
Blizzard does see it as the game is available to you through the use of other characters. Just because there is a bug that affects one particular aspect doesn’t mean the game is completely inaccessible.
However, the determination for reimbursement/refund can’t be made on the forums. For that, you’ll want to submit a support ticket. Just keep in mind the refund policy.
someone has claimed that they ran into this bug as well, same circumstance, happening during faction change…they said that they did yet another faction change and that fixed things. Can Ampitup be given another faction change for free?
i mean it pretty much is permanently unplayable until a proper solution exists which clearly one does not, and given that this bug has been around awhile…
id imagine they are hoping that, given how fast leveling is in TWW, that the users just make a new char…
in any case it’s still good for science because what if faction changing again does indeed fix the problem every time?
When I say permanently unplayable here, I mean the issue becomes unfixable, or breaks something else.
But even then, not being able to change talents/no hero talents isn’t going to make you stand out in LFD/LFR, given how low damage is in that content to begin with.
