b u m p - i’m enjoying my first playthrough of classic but man, i’d like reassurance that my toons arent going to be dragged to Wrath and beyond or just straight up deleted

When has Blizz ever deleted characters?
Even original Classic characters they simply forced them all to TBC (and beyond) if the players didn’t pick Era, or pay to clone for both. That was a backwards decision (the default should have been staying in Era), but those characters exist in some form.
Asking for communication from The Classic WoW team is quite the tall order

sending a naxx geared character to TBC when you wanted to finish gearing it in Era may as well be the same as deleting the character…

They could have chosen to keep the character in Era when TBC launched, or clone for both. And had like…2 years?…before the service was shut down. If people regret their decision, that’s fine. But they had every opportunity to make the choice.
I don’t think Blizz handled it well at all. They did it backwards. And the cloning service was ridiculously overpriced and sunk Classic Era.
But that’s done. People wanting their original Classic characters back in Era are out of luck. That’s not happening. So the question is will Blizz learn from that debacle? Well, they clearly had no faith in the long-term health of Classic Era…so they probably think the same for any Era server.
which decision? The characters were automatically sent to TBC last time. Anyone taking a long break from the game was out of luck through no fault of their own.
I’ve literally taken year long breaks in Era and have returned to have all of my progress still right where it was and my efforts from before were not invalidated.
I know the transfers of future mess ups back to era is out of the question but the fact that blizzard has had zero communication on this important matter speaks to how little they understand about why people love the game.
No brainer stuff like this:
Era
TBC Era
WotLK Era
All fresh releases dump into these permanent eras once they end, or you can CHOOSE to bring them into the next expansions fresh release
How long does it take to just tell people what to expect with the making of their characters?
I know that as a casual player I’m so sick of “seasonal” content that wipes your progress every year or so like happens in so many games these days.
Thats why people want permanent era servers for whatever expansion they enjoy.
Does no one at Blizzard understand this fact that should be obvious to anyone who has played the game for any substantial amount of time with an above room temperature IQ …

The characters weren’t deleted. That’s a fact.
Only when they closed down the cloning service, after 2 years or whatever.
Before then, you would have had to choose to move them to TBC.
This is false.
The clone was a voluntary paid service. With complete inaction, prior to the expansion and after (assuming you miss the entire window to transfer), your character was simply sent to TBC no questions asked.
Your character being sent to an expansion you consider undesirable and will not play is essentially the functional equivalent of your character being made useless.
For example, I have a character I didn’t clone. Its nobody else’s fault but mine, but the character is effectively deleted because I no longer play it and have no desire to ever due to it being beyond era, in expansions I care not for.
You can argue on the basis of the literal assessment all you want but it just makes you look pedantic.
Whether or not players had a choice to avoid that functional “deletion” is irrelevant to the objectivity of the statement. Yes, players could have easily prevented their character from going away, but it doesn’t change the fact Blizz did still do it.

What did I say was false? It happened how I said.
And the characters aren’t deleted. They were just moved to TBC. But players had two years to not let that happen.
Do you always have this much of a hard time with interpreting everything literally?
When people say “delete” they are still fully aware that the character technically still exists.
Newer expansions invalidate the validity and stature of your character. Being a decked out lvl 60 in era is not the same as being a decked out lvl 60 in TBC.
I do not know why you need this to be explained to you when you’re likely a functioning adult that should be able to understand simple concepts like this.

I refuse to gamble again at this point. I am already not allowed to play permanent wrath classic era servers because blizzard refuses to make them.
They touched on anniversary bc classic servers but not anniversary wrath classic in the blue post. And I just don’t see the point in playing vanilla classic again if I can’t get permanent wrath classic servers this time around.

i will never ever look at cata so yeah my characters were deleted for me when they forced them into wrath. anything beyond wrath is dead to me

I never deleted my toons. But my goodness I am not playing classic vanilla for a 10th time or whatever if we cannot get permanent wrath classic era realms. I want it so badly and blizzard won’t let me play permanent wrath classic.

It seems like such a slam dunk that it surprises me they haven’t done it.
Classic → Continue or transfer to Era → TBC → Continue or transfer to TBC era → Wrath → Transfer to Wrath Era, +1 prestiege level, go again from Classic.
