I think void elves were an attempt to give the Alliance a skinny, sexy elf model that would be different from blood elves in enough ways to warrant it.
I also think we’d have far fewer high elf threads if they gave them normal skintones.

Another high elf thread? Really?
High Elf threads are eternal. Even as the sun consumes the Earth, they will continue to be. When the heat death of the universe occurs, the last of all movement will be a HElf thread
I was in that thread, as Aenaleth (I had a name change that decided to finally appear, it seems).
I feel like the importance of high elves remaining not-playable is more rooted in story than trying to justify how different or how similar they are to an existing race.
It will be the last thing that moves into the giant black hole before the re-big bang.
Green eyes there in that link. Blue eyed elves are on alliance ships for warfronts helping them, helping them fight against the horde.
But that is why they won’t do it:
Ion knows it would be giving them High Elves.
They look EXACTLY like them; if the lack of blue eyes are making you feel like you are not a High Elf, you have issues. Blood Elf is as close as you’ll get.
That is like me feeling like I’m not a true Gnome, because I have DK eyes. How silly would I be?
I agree. I had brought up that the Belves were getting blue eyes (I hadn’t heard they were cancelled) and was told that the reason they were cancelled was backlash. I don’t know how true it is.
I hadn’t heard they were “cancelled” as much as it was just a datamined eye color and people assumed. \o/
That definitely could be true too. I haven’t looked into it because the fact that it isn’t happening was more important that the why for me. At the time anyways. I might try to find out later.
It was a datamined color that got put up next to all of the rest on Wowhead because they didn’t know if it was supposed to be for players or not. People subsequently lost their minds.
They’re technically flagged as playable at the moment as I hear it from people who have access to the beta
But as a gnome, lemme tell you, I know allllll about having stuff flagged as playable in one patch and then disappearing from retail hahahaaaa there’s been a gnomish woman’s hairstyle that’s been unused since Cata
That seems likely, but the part I don’t understnad is why they decided to write them as former bloodelves, which means we ended up with a race that is horde loyal (so why did the alliance accept them) and void corrupted (so why did the alliance accept them) by accident because they were power hungry and messed up (so why did the alliance accept them?)
Whenm they could have just as easilly had the same race, only it was the Alliance High elves from the Allerian stronghold, loyal to Alleria who tried to save Alleria from a void attack and ended up getting infected. That way we’d have a race that was allready alliance, and acted as heros, it would make sense to accept them.
Of course. Blizzard is far better off just leading the Playable Quel’dorei folks along than actually giving them what they want.
Now, if those folks unsubscribed en masse, then Blizzard might do something for them. But only if the numbers are there.
Fundamentally, the only thing that matters is business. Lore can be changed at a whim. Money talks and nothing else.
Does anyone know what that purple eye color is about? I considered that was their nod to the arcane half of the sunwell.
Marked as non-playable I believe. Same with red eyes.
I don’t even believe that “mass unsubbing” would work. Frankly because I don’t think modern Blizzard would care, and because I don’t think there is enough people who would unsub and do it for specifically this reason.
That’s been Vereesa’s canon eye colour for a while that hasn’t been represented ingame, but shows up in her Hearthstone cards
Alleria, largely, and also the elves have a storied history of being allied with humans. Anduin being extremely peace-seeking is another reason.
Fair enough, yeah. I reckon we’re only getting green and yellow, which is a shame.
