Blizz working with Discord to ban boosting communities

Its good to see blizz being more proactive on smashing this blight into oblivion.

Considering boosts are allowed and theyre adding a new chat channel for them, i dont see why doing it on discord should be an issue.

(So long as its all in game gold of course)

Most of these guys were RMT types of boosters.

Interesting but I wonder how Discord will keep track of new boosting for Money discords being set up if they change their name to something else like.

Auntie Mays Biscuit Buddies and all transactions inside the discord are code worded through baking lingo

Ah then that makes more sense

I love that idea lol

I can’t see how Discord working with game companies to moderate private communities is good for discord.

I guess we could always assume they were reading out conversations…but it they are taking action based on developer requests it is going to rub a bunch of people the wrong way.

Goodbye… now if they’d just do it to the gold boosting too…

Probably not, but doing RMT for boosting is against Blizzard ToS so they probably asked Discord to help them crack down and Discord said yes by the looks of it. So even if it isn’t against Discord’s ToS, I’m sure Discord reserves the right to close any server they want for any reason they want.

After more carefully reading the article discord has labeled selling RMT boosts as.

““Your account participated in selling, promoting, or distributing cheats, hacks, or cracked accounts.”,”

Which is silly.

This is from mass reports on discord.
Blizzard has exactly nothing to do with this.

Notably that same article you linked says this… which I guess means you linked it here without reading it…

We’ve seen lawsuits against players and companies for distributing hacks and other illegal software. Groups that sell and freely share programs for cheating in games, hacks for game consoles and piracy of games. Discord working to ban these groups is likely to cover their own behinds in case Blizzard decides to pursue legal action against these groups.

The article didn’t say that Blizz had nothing to do with it, just that it was unlikely.
We will likely have to wait for more details as the companies/players make statements.
Regardless, I could still see this causing some bad PR for Discord.

“While one could try to draw a link between these actions and the removal of these communities, it is highly unlikely that Blizzard is involved in these closures, as sources have reported that in-game accounts and guild banks from these communities have been left untouched and are still operational.”

Remove the game token from the game.

Problem would go away.

Oh wait, too much cash flow from that. Nvm

You realize this is just RMT for boosts, no token or gold exchange right?

Or did you just not read?

Couldn’t they just make a new server and keep going…?

Because platforms that recklessly refuse to moderate themselves:

A) Tend to become liable in court
B) Become unpopular

The lesson learned here is that cheating is defined by the rules of the game and isn’t just a synonym for hacking.

Ya, if not all… I don’t see why they’d action any law abiding boosters

I’m sure some will be mixed in but I’m assuming this was for the RMT ones.

I guess we’ll see how it all plays out, but the impact of banning communities for breaking the rules of specific games will extend far outside of the WoW community.

And really, it does nothing to stop the practice. Sellers will just migrate to other platforms.

Some people hate stuff so much that logic and evidence doesn’t factor into their decision making.
