I wish the forums let us have different reactions.
No like I paid someone to put in RAM and I had to take it back to them twice to figure out they put in a defective part.
As in? Iâm curious.
Whats stupid even is, you can keep your HDD if you just want to. Or because they are cheaper, you install OS on a HDD, then install a couple small SDD and just play games from those. You get the benefit of keeping games safe if HDD crashesâŚ
Sometimes âLikeâ isnât really the word that expresses what Iâm feeling.
For example your post, I would want a âlaughâ reaction (as in with you, not at you), or maybe a âfunnyâ reaction.
Other forums I visit have options like âAgree, Like, Informative, Funnyâ
Okay, thatâs the line of thinking I had when you said that.
ThatâŚkind of is the nature of everything though. Even car parts have a possibility of being defective out the gate. Even light bulbsâŚ
So, you study up, realize what could be the main cause, and go on. Realistically though, the chances of something being bad if you JUST bought a new SDD, cable, and the PS is working of anything being defective is low.
Then if so, you use the power plug from say your working DVD drive, and if it works, you diagnosed the issue right there. If not, try taking its SATA cable too. If both work, you know that new SATA was defective. If that doesnât identify, you use the new cable and plug in that DVD drive. If it works, the drive was defectiveâŚ
I have never had a defective plug or cable⌠so your comparison wasnât very good.
I also had a 128G SSD for the operating system and misc plus a 2T HD. When the original SSD could no longer hold the WoW files, I went for another SSD. Itâs a 500G SSD with only WoW files on it. I plan, at least for now, to keep it exclusively WoW. That way, if anything happens, I can reformat it and start over without losing anything else. I keep a copy of WoW updated on the HD for backup.
Canât, even consoles are coming with SSDs now. I think Iâll stick with my PS4 til Sony puts out a PS5 with a HDD! stamps foot on ground stubbornly
All joking aside, SSDs arenât all the expensive any more.
And I am not saying to get one just for WoW. Invest in a SSD that can hold multiple games and watch the load screens take seconds instead of minutes.
Iâve seen quite a few bad SATA cables, and gone through my share of bad displayport cables. Actually bad displayport cables seems pretty common.
For 60-80$ youâre going to speed up your loading IMMENSELY. WoW is already a CPU heavy game which can grog down your PC if you donât have the ideal rig. But even if WoW does use up like 60% of your CPU or more, and SSD will be like it never happened I promise. Plus youâre going to get a lot more out of having an SSD than just WoW.
You canât expect game upgrades without computer upgrades. The rest of the industry does it and the players accept it as a way of life.
Thatâs true, over time and it also depends on the piece of hardware.
You can still play current WoW with a CRT monitor if you wanted to. There are just certain components that are more critical at some point.
Microsoft Windows 3.1 only required a 386 CPU and 2MB RAM. Windows 10 requires 1 GHz and 1GB RAM. But those are different pieces of software. Itâs not like WoW that just has individual update patches/expansions. Theyâre their own things. Kinda like how Starcraft and Starcraft II are different.
Now, if they came out with WoW 2, expecting to be able to play on a system remotely close to what you could play when WoW came out would be unrealistic.
Think of it like consoles. I can play Super Mario Bros on my NES. I can always play that game on my NES. If I want to play the higher end ones, I have to buy the higher end consoles. I shouldnât have to upgrade my console because a DLC came out.
Why would you not want to drastically increase your boot/load times on everything? Luckily as people have stated in this thread, that SSDâs are really affordable now. Pull the trigger. You will not regret it at all.
Youâre absolutely right, but normal DLC doesnât include technological advancements in rigging, lighting, particles, and physics. Even if we were to remove all the content from BC on to BfA and kept only the advanced modifications theyâve made to the world and engine, the game would still require a beefier pc than Vanilla WoW required. The game is pretty much WoW Remastered at this point and the advancements are still coming.
lol Thatâs either a curse or a blessing.
I personally think they should have just made WoW 2 a few expansions ago. No shame in continuing the story but with a new engine, etc. Starcraft did just that.
Too big of a risk, unless they carry everything over, and engines can be EXPENSIVE
I actually found an external SSD for less than $40. granted, it was like 240G of storage, but that should be more than enough if you are only playing wow on it.
once i can get the money for it, iâm getting it.
Take the included USB cable, plug into available USB port on computer.
Even a troll like yourself could do it. Well, maybe not you, but a functioning adult.
