Yeah, but having one patch cycle without DHKs would actually be more Vanilla-like. If the goal is authenticity, that seems like a reasonable proposition.
Vanilla had a 1 patch period of 43 days, where there were not DHKs but were Honor. âshouldâ doesnât come into it, except to say we âshouldâ be replicating Vanilla as authentically as possible.
Is the incentive for camping NPCs to grief the players, then?
Iâd expect it to be a minimal problem on pve servers because most players who take pleasure in griefing other players will be rolling on pvp servers.
Doesnât anyone flagged on a PVE server summon the entire enemy faction to immediately kill them for their PvP video? Joking
There are far worse things on a PVE server. How about someone using consumables/items to completely cover flight masters, quest givers etc. They are blue walled and you canât do anything about it lol.
I got the idea originally when I did the same in bear form, but I just kept my giant bear butt in their face. Later on, I realize that sitting on top of them while mounted might work better.
Ultimately making the change will kill off City Raiding.
When we are raiding cities, we will have to revisit this topic and ask ourselves âDo we really want to make it near impossible to bring players to raid cities?â
On PvP servers no one will want to raid because of their ranks.
On PvE servers guilds that are PvE focus might still raid cities but those odds are low.
on PvP servers, raiding cities will always have groups ready to go.
It just a very fun aspect of the game that will be gone if the change is made.
Actually, itâs quite the opposite. From their griefer perspective, what is your biggest target? Those unwilling, uninterested, or unable to fight back. That is something a PvE server can offer in abundance while a PvP server can in a much more limited scope.
The 7.3.5 client doesnât work the same as 1.x did for this. It is significantly easier to target the things you will be trying to hide. Also, shift + v shows friendly nameplates which are way easier to click.
I still raided cities on an RP server, because it made sense. It also made sense to avoid killing civilians because they were innocent bystanders.
But regardless its a recreation of events that happened. We had DHKs for the majority of the Vanilla experience. For exactly 5% of the Vanilla experience did we have Honor without DHKs.
Whatâs more faithful. 5% of the time, or 80% of the time?
To some it may be before the change was made, because that was a change. A good change? In my opinion not a good change because it was proven to not work as intended and removed to not be implemented in TBC.
Without the change being made there is no DHK. A system which discourages City Raiding.
But the problem with that theory is that players on pve servers can and do fight back and, not only that, they get the first attack. You act as if pve players donât pvp, which is just one of those stereotypes.
So griefers on pve servers have to do more work for less reward and more risk.
Anyone can always tab-target, but thereâs a real loss in visibility that disorients/distracts players all while elite city guards are spawning and attacking them.
The change was made after Vanilla though. Sure they changed the system, but they didnât change it for the period of time that Classic is recreating.
The change to turn the Meeting Stone matching system into a âbetterâ quality LFG tool was also a change made later. Should we replace the Meeting Stone matching tool from Vanilla with the Cross Realm LFD tool too? Any changes after Vanilla may have been good, or may have been bad, but they were after Vanilla.
Like I said, thereâs an argument for CP2 not having DHKs, but they need to be added in in CP3 in that model.
Highly incorrect, you project your belief that people believe this stereotype onto me.
The people that choose to PvP on a PvE server choose to do so for one major reason. The choice of when to PvP and when to avoid it.
I never said PvP doesnât happen. I am say that griefers have more targets on a PvE server. Which leads to;
Itâs no work at all when the goals is to grief. Itâs a win/win situation. They grief without retribution until someone finally toggles PvP on. Then itâs PvP time which is also a goal.
Canât tab target a mailbox. The modern client makes it significantly easier to click that mailbox when people cover it.
