Exactly xD Which is literally what happened here - to our knowledge anyways. We can only go off assumptions and body-language from the cast. I mean I think if he had said what he did ELSEWHERE it might have held more context of like “Look where I am now, look at who I am, and I support X”
And this “dates back” to nearly a century of oppressive hegemony by a rogue state. Which is STILL ONGOING.
Would it have been better for you if he said “Free Tibet!” or “Justice for Tienanmen!”
It wouldn’t have gotten any attention negative or otherwise, had it not been broadcast in the first place.
Probably would have been considerably less fallout and no kerfluffle.
I haven’t been keeping up with this, but I assume someone has already linked to the relevant sections in this contract you’re talking about.
Blizzards contract doesnt stipulate that the act gain attention. Only players cannot use their platform to promote political ideas.
They used blizzards platform to promote political ideas.
Wheres the contractual punishment
So this was the original topic of that conversation to which I never received a reply to, so I’ll fill you in with this much. As for what he says is completely besides the point lol. All of those responses - while virtuous and bravo to him for believing in something and even supporting it - all line up with Blizzard’s tourny rules. And the person I had this conversation with was all about the basic ground of rules.
edit: fixed quoting
Actually that’s incorrect.
The term in question prohibited any conduct, etc. that:
“brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image [sic].”
I think had the whole thing NOT gone massively “public” to begin with, I don’t see the clause applying.
Could be wrong, but I think more leniency might have been accorded.
Both went public. Both impacted blizzard. Both resulted in countless news articles attached to the companies name. Both damaged blizzards image.
So then because the AU stream had mic and stream cut, you think they weren’t punished/not punished as severely?
I was thinking that, in light of the statement today, that that bit about damaging Blizzard’s image may be applied to one or more employees. We’ll probably never find out though.
Yknow what this was on my mind earlier. Isn’t anyone thinking about the employees too? Not just in China but how this image can leak down to the employee level, what people may think of them and if this affects them or could affect them.
Well, this all blew out of control because of their disproportionate response. If they hadn’t rushed to judgment, and been so heavy handed with that judgment, there wouldn’t have been nearly as much notice about what Blitzchung said.
They should have given Blitzchung a short ban and issued a statement that his views were in no way supported by Blizzard. Instead they went nuclear and it blew up in their face.
It’s certainly a possibility
Just saying there probably wouldn’t have been such a harsh response if the thing had not been public on an open mic.
Just a guess
Don’t know if you’ve ever seen or heard this before, but when one person does one thing a few others will do the same thing but have less punishment. Its like the monkey see monkey do thing but due to these incidences being so close together I’d say yeah, its a good possibility all they got was a private slap on the wrist.
hehe yes… Human behavior is fun!
I dont think ive ever heard of people breaking laws and getting less harsh punishments if someone did it before them but okay
I feel that a response like that would have been just as bad.
I see it because I work in a middle school. One kid starts pushing another kid, another kid joins in, piles in from there. They’re always saying “Well I saw X doing it to Y and then Z joined in…” They’re all punished but not equally. The most severely punished is the one that started it. Then those that followed are punished a little less.
IE had a kid who admitted to throwing the punch in a fight first over a game controller. He was banned until next semester (he had a few other writeups in his file around causing trouble). The next kid was suspended from playing in the club for 2 weeks for his involvement but no punches thrown.
because I’m out
