Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Authoritarianism isn’t built on giving people options. Do what the state demands or get re-educated through labor. Read about the East/West german border. They had sand strips that were raked every day. If the guards didn’t shoot the people trying to leave (footprints in the sand with no body) they went to prison.

Make no mistake, this is about power and authority. No more one china two systems. After this it will be about bringing Taiwan into the fold.

They want these people to become obedient and accept the authority of the party. It’s not about communism - it’s about power.

Don’t lie.

It speaks volumes about your character that you don’t think this way. There are people in the US on both sides of the political aisle that salivate to the thought of having the kind of control over others Xi has.

Which is true, but what im saying is that they also dont want the friction. Yes they want to re educate but thats not always working in their favor. Killing off/throwing said people out of the country makes it harder to re-educate. I get leaving does as well.

People have been leaving China for years, yes there is issues , but lets be real here, they dont stop everyone. My original point was there is ways to aid the actual cause opposed to rofl stompin blizz. Id rather not discuss to far into the options and the varying success they have.

Some sort of witch pursuit thing.

Sorry to bombard you with replies, but I’ve got to go for the day.

If you like to experience stuff through gaming there is an indy game series called Avadon. The graphics are spartan, but the story arc really made me appreciate the realities of living in that kind of society.

Seems like this is just an example of discourse failing in general. I have no issue with people who believe Blizzard acted improperly. I also have no problem with people who are fine with what Blizzard did. My overarching issue with the action is that I do not believe Blizzard would react in a remotely similar way if the person had done something like make fun of the US President. I am fine with companies enforcing rules on an equal basis. HOWEVER, I have recourse should I believe Blizzard is wrong. I can withhold my money, and I can explain my position to others in the hope they may agree with me and follow that same path. I should not try to mass shame people into adopting my position for fear of being railed by the hate mob. Then I am making someone else do exactly what I denounce Blizzard for doing: taking a stance solely for the monetary consequence or to avoid that monetary consequence. There is nothing at all wrong with people disagreeing over this issue. If the only way one side can get the other to adopt their view is through threat of some type, that position is not overly defensible in the first place.

omg I couldn’t agree with this more…

Let’s be real here. Humanity was a mistake.

Agree completely.

I only had a FB account to keep in touch with my Dad. We both suck at phones (We’d rather drive 2 hours each way to say hi than call to say it) and our schedules clash, so messages were handy.

I got banned for posting something THEY posted and it’s really been a lot less BS

The internet was a mistake.

This is why I deleted my Twitter and Facebook ages ago. All it does is provide an endless supply of gas for the flames of Social Warrior Justice.

I’d love you but my wife would get jealous, so I will say that I like you.

Yes, they did. A competitor used their widely broadcasted event to spread their own political views. Any event in its right mind would make an apology, with some organizations going to crazy extremes at times.

For example, who here knows of GDQ (Games Done Quick)? Its a non-profit organization in partnership with Doctors Without Borders. A few years back a certain runner made some distasteful jokes about Air Canada, which prompted GDQ to make a public apology to Air Canada via Twitter.

Now, personally, they overreacted to the situation because it honestly was not necessary to go that far. However, anyone with any modicum of thinking ability can deduce why organizations publicly apologize for incidents like this. Its to make it clear, publicly, that the statements of people like this that attend their events are not the organization’s comments.

Any organization worth it’s salt wants to stay as neutral as possible thus to cast as wide a net as possible. (Yeah yeah, corrupt corperations, yada yada, banging the drum since the 60’s…)

That “apology” isn’t to kiss butt, its to make it clear that the person’s statement was not their own. End of story.

As others have already stated, the commentators did in fact take part in it.

Oh please, Blizzard Entertainment does far more for anyone through its charity causes than any one of these armchair warriors do and give far more than anyone here could ever hope to.

While I won’t argue that Bobby Kotic and a portion of Activision isn’t corrupt and disgusting, Blizzard Entertainment itself does quite a lot. The majority of these people are just fairweather protesters who just want a reason to be outraged at Blizzard. Not a single person here is actually going to do anything in aiding the cause of Hong Kong. Their “support” end with telling off Blizzard and harassing anyone who does not share their viewpoint blindly.

Seriously, that’s what the TC of this thread even brings up in their original post.

Its just people using this as an excuse to be terrible human beings while flying under the banner of “I care about the bigger issues!” just as it always is with every new outrage. Hatemongering, mob mentality, social justice just continues on the way it always does. Just like the people who go to protests and destroy property/loot. Its not about the cause, its an excuse to get away with being horrible.

Even the people who “Walked out” of Blizzard the other day, how many of them ACTUALLY care about the root of the plight? That root being the Hong Kong China issue. How many of them are going to do anything that actually matters? Are they going to take this to their congressman? Are they going to picket outside their capital? Of course not. They took the easiest path of least resistance, got their moment of glory, and that’s it. They won’t think of the issues across the sea anymore in a months time.

I honestly think the 1 year ban and loss of prize money is enough for his actions even if he knowingly did it expecting punishment. I do think that if he ever returns however and if he wins again he should not have interviewing privileges because of his previous stunts.

Which all of this shows just how lowly the outrage culture community is, focusing on Blizzard upholding their contract and attempting to maintain political neutrality instead of focusing on the actual issues of China and Hong Kong. Blizzard may be soulless, but they are a million times better than those who live this outrage culture.

I am a very noisy typer. I press each key with the intensity of the sun itself!

Actually its just a mechanical keyboard… Keys are pretty loud…

Whats funny is that literally last week South Park did an episode on China. China is just the new hot button topic. Not saying its not a valid topic, but people are using this banner as a way to do what they always do. Be horrible.

Cancel your sub right now then. Or better yet delete your account. Go ahead…You and I both know you aren’t going to do that and most everyone else isn’t going to do that either.

Boycotting is fine, harassing people is not.

Blizzard made a lot of things to make keyboard warriors happy, and now they attack Blizzard without mercy.

There is fair criticisms to be made against them, but a lot of what we’re seeing on these boards is pure vitriol.
