Blizzard killed wow. Dumbest PR move of the decade by a gaming company, and that is saying something.
Which one is right?
Someone stood up and defended China and Blizzard Banned them and took their prize away for political talk at their esport venue. Would Blizzard be right if they banned them?

I see you had a good time at the Chinese “re-education” camps, OP.
I fail to see how a few bad apples means the entire bunch deserves to be murdered in the streets.
I’m sure you also think the Uyghurs and Tibetans deserve to have their organs removed too, because they had it coming right?
Part of me suspects that the only reason bliz caved on vanilla servers was because they knew chinese gold sellers would make a killing.
What was the timeline for all this anyways? Was blizzHQ even awake to call this kind of shot?
For all I know the decision could have been made by Chinese employees acting out of patriotism and or fear and by the time HQ could react it was too late.
I’m pretty sure the people of South Korea are grateful we intervened on their behalf. It’s a shame we couldn’t free the entirety of the Korean peninsula. Communism is brutal and the outcome is always the same. Death and despair!
Vietnam was brutal to their own people, Hong Kong hasn’t experienced anything like their people did.
Children should not be in jail, regardless of if they broke the law. Do you really believe we should be locking children up?
These companies have been fined based on their US-based activities here in the USA. EU has also fined some of them for breaking their laws.
I think we will have to wait and see how dedicated our politicians are to precluding American companies from doing business with China.
I would note, however, this incident has taken a lot of other embarrassing things off the front page. We shall have to see how dedicated our politicians are to this issue.
Just when you think they couldn’t top the 2018 Diablo Immortal PR disaster…
Blizzard aims to impress.
Fixed that for you.
Go tell Britain to help Hong Kong, it’s their baby after all.
One of the more interesting aspects of this whole situation to me is a part that’s out of Blizzard’s control.
We know that the Chinese government has banned certain things that have been critical of either the Communist Party, or Chinese Government leaders. Things like South Park and Winnie the Pooh after it turning into a meme about China are now essentially scrubbed from the Chinese internet.
And players are starting to do things like use Mei from Overwatch to create memes in favor of HK democracy. They’re using images of tanks from Star Craft, or steam tanks from Warcraft to make memes about Chinese oppression.
If players are successfully creating viral memes against the Chinese government using all kinds of Blizzard symbols across their IP and universes, what happens next?
There’s a chance there that the Communist Party in China will wind up banning Blizzard products there across the board, regardless of what Blizzard does. And that’s not really in Blizzard control.
It’ll be interesting to see the way it pans out over time. Between reports that Blizzard’s stock is taking a hit, and the boycott news is trending, I am guessing they are looking at this as a complete and total PR disaster now.
Nothing will happen until 2020, and only if the current occupant in the White House is voted out. He promised China he’d say nothing about Hong Kong.

US officials have been banned from supporting pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, after Donald Trump reportedly promised the US would stay quiet during trade negotiations.
Asked about the Hong Kong protests in August, Trump told reporters: “Somebody said that at some point they’re going to want to stop that. But that’s between Hong Kong and that’s between China, because Hong Kong is a part of China. They’ll have to deal with that themselves. They don’t need advice.”
If you care about the people of Hong Kong, please get out and vote in November 2020. Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have already voiced their support for the people of Hong Kong.
Thanks for the political advertisement.
You asked the question about what politicians would do, I gave you information that answers it for you.
Actually I didn’t ask anything. I merely commented that we would have to wait and see if there is any political interest in stopping US companies from doing business in China.
I do not share your optimism that politicians in 2020 will be any more dedicated to stopping US businesses from trading with foreign nations, including China. Too much money involved.
Politicians during election cycles say a lot, deliver little. I don’t expect that to change.
Here’s Elizabeth Warren’s foreign policy on China:
en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Elizabeth_Warren#China
In March 2018, during a three-day visit to Beijing, Warren claimed that US policy encouraging the opening of markets in China through free trade has not been successful. She advocated against the United States having a more integrated economic system with China if the latter country continued failing “to respect basic human rights”.[66]
In November 2018, Warren joined Senators Chris Coons, Marco Rubio and a bipartisan group of lawmakers in sending a letter to the Trump administration raising concerns about China’s undue influence over media outlets and academic institutions in the United States. They wrote: “In American news outlets, Beijing has used financial ties to suppress negative information about the CCP. In the past four years, multiple media outlets with direct or indirect financial ties to China allegedly decided not to publish stories on wealth and corruption in the CCP…Beijing has also sought to use relationships with American academic institutions and student groups to shape public discourse.”[67]
Warren and some other members of Congress introduced legislation seeking to punish China over its human rights abuses against the Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities in China’s north-western province of Xinjiang.[68][69] China may have imprisoned as many as 1 million Muslims in re-education camps, according to a UN estimate.[70][71]
In February 2019, amid a report by the Commerce Department that ZTE had been caught illegally shipping goods of American origin to Iran and North Korea, Warren was one of seven senators to sponsor a bipartisan bill reimposing sanctions on ZTE in the event that ZTE did not honor both American laws and its agreement with the Trump administration.[72]
In the wake of the Daryl Morey tweet about standing with Hong Kong. Warren joined fellow senators from across the political spectrum admonishing the NBA for choosing “its pocketbook over its principles”.[73] Warren has shown strong support for the protests in Hong Kong[74] and been admit about being strong on China’s economical power.
To avoid escalating, I am going to stop this discussion.
