Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

One fact. Just FYI.

Warcraft movie made over $100 million in China while only $47 million in the United States.

The casters were fired cause they were in on the protest from the start…they caused themselves to be fired.

Someone called me out as an SJW for this earlier lmao stating I’m allowing no free speech. Somewhere lost in the recesses of this forum now, but anyways: no, I don’t think Blizzard was censoring freedom of speech. They were for sure censoring the speech on their platform, but I don’t think it was a direct freedom of speech censorship. Now, if TOMORROW we hear that the employees who voiced their own opinions by refusing work and taping up some of the messages at the company itself, and they are fired, THEN that is a violation of freedom of speech and I’ll align myself with them.

Their own values, i think mayb you aren’t aware of them. Making Overwatch characters gay/lesbian for no reason other than to have more representation for the minorities, telling us every voice matters etc etc etc. Then when it comes to someone fighting for Human Rights they suddenly go quiet, full reverse because they are scared of Chinas pull with the Market. Because money is at stake when it comes to the latter and not the former.

Freedom of speech only applies to the government. It has never applied to private entities and platforms they put forward.

It’s a weird point to bring up legality, when no-one has argued that what Blizzard has done wasn’t legal.

It was just disproportionate and is seen as a political move on Blizzards part.

Perfectly legal though.

And that is some tightrope walk.

Gonna need some citation.

I just started playing runescape again, I couldn’t believe how much fun I was having from having been away from it for so long lol. Yeah I won’t be boycotting Blizz, I know they’re a gaming company and I play em for the games. I couldn’t help but laugh earlier though when all of these posts were being centralized here earlier but they’re still popping up everywhere

Oh you probably haven’t read far back enough in this consolidated thread. Yes, illegality was claimed.

Yeah the US lawmakers are cracking down on Blizzard too about this whole ban which honestly they need to get their nose out of this IMO. Like I said, this thing has been escalating all day.

I wonder, if a tournament player had come out wearing a MAGA hat and praising Trump and got banned for that in the same way if people would still be making an outcry like this. I’m betting not.

I move around too much to focus on trade chat lol never in the cities except for warfronts and AH.

Oh, it is so very cute that you thought they did any of that for no other reason than to have more representation. They did that because they figured it could be used to market their game. Publicly traded businesses are about money. They always have been, and always will be. Everything else is focused around that point. Chic-fil-a can support anti-gay programs because they’re still controlled by private entities. Blizzard is a publicly traded company, and so any political stance they take, or seem to take, should ALWAYS be looked at through the lens of how this makes them money. If you think otherwise, you’re lying to yourself.

Hahahah oh you~~
I’d guess the outcry would be just that much big. AND, people would be saying “They have no right to be wearing that on this game” or something along those lines.

I think you are right. Freedom of political speech is very well restricted in the USA these days.

Didja know that Blizzard forced a guild called “Make Azeroth Great Again” to change its name because it was abbreviated “MAGA?”

True, thread on Classic General.

TBH, I thought assigning a sexual orientation to Overwatch characters was stupid to begin with ;/ Let the people decide in their fanfics cough cough

God damn your name is funny and making me lolz

This is a 7000 post thread that’s made up about 20 different threads mushed together. So yeah, I guess I’ll take that L for not being omniscient.

But my point still stands. Blizzard aren’t getting flak for breaking the law. They’re getting flak for making what should have been a relative minor incident into an international one by trying to making a political stance with the disproportionate punishment of Blitzchung.

They wouldn’t get banned for the same thing though. Sure they might get DQ’d for a couple of games, or they’d get a fine.

But they wouldn’t get one of the harshest penalties handed down in Hearthstones history because of it.

It’s a player’s breach of an agreement made, as determined by Blizzard.
That’s all it is. That’s all it’s ever been. Blizzard has the sole right to take action or not as they see fit, that was part of the deal. Blizzard acted. Some people say overreacted but it’s not for them to decide. They’re not a party of that agreement made because it’s between Blizzard and the individual player, nor are they owners of the property that was involved.
