Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Blizzards not being vindictive here, they are being a coward.

I still do look at the rules as having been an official Blizz thing but a few articles here and there and talking with Awkward has made me think maybe it was a bit harsh. However I’ll still stand by some sort of punishment in terms of “There’s a time and place for everything.”

I’ve literally been waiting for a Blue post or some official statement to be made by Blizzard for us all so can calm the hell down on these forums and get back to yelling at each other about allied races, rep grinding, Classic vs Retail etc etc. But still nothing yet. Hopefully by tomorrow we get something from them ;/ Though I scoffed at the US lawmakers chiming into this too >_<

Blizzard being the arbiter of their own rules have discretion as they see fit. Since it wasnt a hard and fast rule they could apply any number of differing punishments.

Twitter is just more talk talk talk.

Show me a PAC established to lobby legislators to make/enforce trade rules with tyrannical regimes;

Show me ACTION, decisive or ANY action apart from keyboard SJWing.

Also I still haven’t received an answer to whether it’s just that Blizzard is demanding government ID or whether, even if you comply with this request, the “delete account” function is actually and purposefully disabled. It’s unclear from the twitter feed exactly what the problem is.

I stated elsewhere if Blizzard is in fact actively preventing people from deleting their accounts, then that is WRONG. However, if you are serious about severing ties, then you can always delete your bank card information. That act may result in a perma ban, but if that’s what you’re after and Blizzard is not allowing actual deletes, then that is a way to accomplish essentially the same result.

Does not in any way excuse Blizzard’s very bad conduct of making a deletion impossible (if that is really what is going on, as opposed to the delete account system not working right – and yes, can happen).

You’re overexagerating and trying to put the blame on us.
When we did nothing morally wrong.
This is a Blizzard/China problem.

The player offended over 1 billion people. I don’t think this is overreacted.

No, the worst one would have been to issue a permanent ban, for all tournaments and products, on top of everything they did, and then taking him to court for financial damages to their company due to his illicit use of their service as a political platform.

ok. Im going to expect you to come to my defense in here the next time I get suspended over some joker baiting me and I respond to it .
Sound good?

The longer they wait the more it will hurt. Fires will die down but the smoldering coals will remain and all it takes is one misstep and BOOM. Well lets just say they won’t be making smores anytime soon.

Yes, but unpopular and illegal are different standards. Blizzard might, with enough financial pressure from subscribers, make a change. But whether it does or not, Blizzard’s decision was legally appropriate, even if excessive.

holy crap. Yeah, dude got off easy.

I’ve been muted many times for giving people a piece of my mind so you will definitely have my support. Just send me some mail on Dal.

Blizzard must make sure that whatever action they take they balance protecting the feelings of their existing customers without offending China either.

Ima guess either a) people don’t know how to do it or b) because of the boycott no one is able to do it. Like everyone trying to login at the same time slows the queue, so maybe everyone trying to delete their account is slowing it down xD

Though it makes me wonder how many of them will honestly stick through with it. I play WoW and other games to just relax, chime down, enjoy some time with friends who now live in other states. Not for all…this. But I can’t help it, I get sucked in easily if I have something to say. There’s honestly better ways to devote your energy in protest to something ;/

Rule enforcement of TOS of not bringing politics in they had a right to enforce the ban. How they did it was a bit harsh. However bringing in the freedom of speech violations invites so many grey linings. What is described as a violation of free speech? And how far does that freedom go?

eh, I dont know man.
Im betting in 10 days tops this wont even be in the rear view mirror.
Us gamers are pretty easily distracted by food and other meaningless crap.

I could do it and get away from it all. I’ve got games like War Thunder, Runescape, Minecraft or idk any number of games i could get into. It would definitely hurt for a bit but i played RS for 15 years if i can get over RS i can get over my few years at blizzard.

Hehe. in game, I turn off all chat except for party chat. If things get political I ask them to stop. If they choose not to, I leave. I too just love to play and get away from politics.

They are being dispassionate, and thinking about more than just this person’s cause. Coward implies that they have some moral duty here that they are shirking. They do not.

It very well might not be but i have to imagine they will issue a response soon. I dont see Brack letting this fester so close to Blizzcon. Too much risk. People wearing Pro-HongKong shirts underneath sweaters etc etc. It would cause a crapstorm for them not to head this off.
