Blizz having 504 errors

So I decided today to come back to WoW after an 9 month hiatus. I missed it. Kinda getting reminded now why I don’t want to play their greedy grifter game anymore. I was getting 504 error half the day. assuming that’s on blizz’s side. The other half it goes all the way to subscribe and it gives me “Please try again after a quick securiy check” but there is no security check. Just an error saying “heads up something went wrong. return to shop.” So can someone help me out here

cleared cookies and temp files

shut down firewall

multiple browsers on regular and private browsing modes

flushed dns

multiple netoworks

I know if i submit a ticket ill just wait for like 12 days and then get a response like “GeEz DiD yOu Try ”

“GeEz ThIs Is ReAlLy HaRd IDK”

Technical support is mainly player drive discussion on crashes/install issues, unfortunately not billing. Saw reports on this on Support > Customer Support which I can not personally verify. My only suggestion here is to clear out your blizzard wallet, start with a fresh billing method and make sure your bank is not rejecting the purchase.

sadly i did clear out the payment methods and add new ones as mine were very old and outdated. No dice. Ill check my bank but they are pretty good at texting me when they reject something. I’ll ask anyways. appreciate it. It felt technical so i posted here, but i mean GM’s are about as useful as a screen door on a battleship (good one biff) now a days.

Where are you located? Within the US? Outside the US? In a country not supported by the game? VPN’s can cause this issue with blizzards security software. I found this out because I use a VPN on my phone tried to buy something and it went into 504 hell

You shouldn’t be needing a VPN if you’re playing in the NA region. Blizzard has at least two known datacenters (Las Vegas I believe is one and Chicago is the other). If your server is hosted in the datacenter closest to you (e.g. Ner’Zhul being a LV server and you live on the west coast) a VPN is going to very likely add hops to your route, not reduce them.

Additionally, depending on how the VPN routes, it may make you appear as if you’re trying to log in from somewhere outside of your account’s home region, in which case you will not be able to make purchases until the VPN usage is stopped and payment method(s) are updated. Mismatches in home vs. login region will lock payments out. A further hurdle will be incurred if you did not use your real name and home address when setting up your account. In that case you’ll need to contact customer support via ticket and be prepared to provide them your government issued identification and anything else they request in order to verify your identity (failure to do so may result in termination of your account after the fact for providing lawfully incorrect personal information).

I get that you might want privacy, but Blizzard is known for not sharing your personal information, and being based in California as their primary nexus, they also have to abide by the CCPA even for non-CA residents. Again, it’s your choice as to whether or not a VPN is used, but for Blizzard’s games it is unnecessary unless needing to alter data routes to other regions, and is a major cause of issues with purchases.

If you have a PayPal account, I would highly recommend linking that with Battle.net for non-subscription purchases. It’s fast, and you rarely have to wait long for transfers to go through. You’ll still need a regular credit/debit card for subscriptions, but PayPal works for everything else.

Like I said not using a vpn. I rarely use a vpn unless I need a little extra security. But not when I’m just buying or playing.

It just won’t let me resub whatever I do. I’m ipset I got told twice on my ticket to try the things I reported I already did.

Part of that is that VPNs were (and still are) part of the discussion even if “infrequently used”. You might not be using the VPN while playing, but it can have effect at the operating system level. If you aren’t able to subscribe using a CC or DC, then that means the back end is seeing a region mismatch. I would try updating your payment method and attempting to resubscribe on a device other than that one(s) you’ve tried so far. Basically a “clean” device. You did not mention an authenticator, so if you lack one on your account, that should be a first priority as it can resolve a lot of the issues accounts without authenticators can face, including some of what you’re experiencing.
