A majority of the play base agree that the game would be drastically improved by restricting warriors to tank specs. There are enough DPS roles as is: locks, mages, hunters, shadow priests, rogues, etc. No logical reason exists for allowing warriors to spec DPS.
I hate to say it but he is right. Warriors were never meant to dps in Classic, the fact that they can (and do absurdly well) is a result of the broken scaling they have. But when you look at most gear sets itemized for warriors and plate its all defense, stamina, etc.
Even if the warrior isn’t a tank spec a warrior with a shield 3-4 levels above the dungeon level should still be able to tank such an instance. As well at leveling a tank can only support 4 other players.
As well the whole idea of restricting tanks to one spec is very retail in contrast to the absolute insanity of fury prot shows.
In his defense, if the patches had been progressive, the story would have been MUCH different. His post is ridiculous but warriors were garbage dps until 1.12
Reminds me of a joke I made a long time ago about just making everyone hybrids to get rid of the “Hybrid Tax” like turning Rogues Assassination tree into a Combat Medic tree where their heals were melee ranged and healed players for a potion of the damage it would have caused an enemy. Along with Mages Arcane trees.
Or turning Hunters Beast Master tree into a true tanking tree along with Warlocks Demonology tree.
Nothing needed to be done to Warriors though, they were already hybrids. Tank and DPS. They just weren’t subjected to the hybrid tax like the rest.
As someone else pointed out specs aren’t intended to be subclasses as much as so powering up a set of abilities (A design philosophy Blizzard had recently gone back to in Retail).
Arm and Fury specialized Warriors could perform a little bit better on the dps charts, but it wasn’t until the last patch (1.12) with gear scaling + world buffs that they became truly good. For most of Vanilla they were crap.
