Blitz Matchmaking

Why is Blitz matchmaking all over the place? One match I’ll be 2300 mmr and literally the next game I’m at 1800 mmr… I’ll be at 2.1k cr queued up with players who are 1500 cr, who refuse to sit bases, will leave it ghosted and put out 8m damage in a 10+ minute match.

I’m 2.1k cr looking to get 2.4k yet I’m being queued with 1500 cr players who only want 1800 to get the mog and have no clue what’s going on. It’s worse than the SoD STV event.

Possibly has something to do with the amount of people playing whatever PvP it is you are doing.
(basically, with less players playing the game, you will be grouped with players in larger diversity of rating than if more players were playing the game, if that makes sense)

idk but its really sad that 95% of games ive played were lopsided stompouts

win or lose its like this

it honestly feels like the game knows what teams gonna win.

idk

i did a bunch of BG blitz over the weekend, prob like 50 games… can only remember very few games that were close/fun

My best guess is Blizzard is throwing people into whatever lobby for greater data yields. I’ve gained MMR for losses and went down 250 MMR after wins. Then sometimes MMR appears to work like it should, then I’ll wait 2 days and start off 300 MMR higher than my last game.

I hope it works like normal rated modes when the season starts.

Yeah, that’s how it worked all throughout the brawl phase as well. My excuse was that it prioritized just getting people into games rather than being strict with the MMR.

But now that CR is involved, I don’t think the wide MMR swings are healthy. If you get dumped into an MMR that is 300 points lower than your CR, then losses are too punishing and it’s hard to climb out of that.

you’re not gaining mmr for losing and losing mmr for winning. you’re just being put into a game that has people of higher/lower average mmr because of lack of other options.

My experience as well, As I have heard other people say, it’s like playing poker, You get a bad hand sometimes, an unbeatable hand sometimes, but most hands you can make a difference.

Whichever way the wind blows. I hope they dont do that in the real season. Lol

There is a wide MMR range for getting matches to run, I suspect. And, that range might actually be increased during off times (when not as many people are queueing). Also, it seems to be increased for healers and tanks.

Also, a lot of people confuse the team MMR with personal MMR (which we can’t see). We would have a much better idea of what is going on if we could see personal MMR.

For example, the match that has someone at 2100 CR in a match with someone at 1500 CR could just mean that the person with 2100 CR is at their peak and playing in a 2100 MMR match (with around a 50% win rate) while the person with 1500 CR is playing at 2100 MMR because they have a VERY high win percentage (80% win rate, for example) with not as many matches played.

This. And if the MMR ranges are really forgiving for getting matches to run, you can see a lot of things that don’t seem to make much sense.

This is how it has been working for 2+ testing seasons now. ;(

Except we get penalized for folding in Blitz if you fold. Instead what I’m seeing now is players give up but refuse to drop and just hand over flags and nodes to make it end quicker without getting deserter.

For the longest time, bg players have been conditioned to give up and roll over if they’re losing in bgs.

Victory or Death!

I had a WSG not long ago where they capped one early while everyone was derping a big teamfight, but we rallied, and with less than a minute left we finally got the second cap to go 1 1 and take the win.

Good stuff.

Technically, this is reportable behaviour.

Did they change something today for Blitz, mmr seems different now

I’m having the opposite experience. Got people flexing glad mounts with zero points in Temple. Like at least kill the orb people. 1KB…

I’ve been playing a lot of Blitz over the past few days. Initially, the MMR seemed fine, but today it’s been very strange. For example, in one game, I had a CR of 2008, with one player on the opposing team having the same CR. Our team’s MMR was 1400, while their team’s MMR was 1700. This is probably the worst MMR discrepancy I’ve seen. We won the game but I only gained 4 points.

Played 15 of my last matches in teams 1400 vs 1700 with only me having 1700 cr and everyone else being 1.3-1.4k, instant loss everytime.

What a great way to play a mode i want to play as a healer. It is 100% just queueing peopel to have more games pop.

I don’t know how they intend to draw rated players into playing Blitz if you can’t gain/lose based off your WL outcome. lol Would literally suck if you’re on a win streak then just randomly lose MMR below your CR where you can’t gain and lose big.

So, never having had the opportunity to speak to you in game, I feel the necessity to inform you that a buddy and I queued into you in a random BG at like 3am years ago and keyed in on your name being ‘Snazzyboots,’ while you made no effort to wear obnoxiously stand-out boot mogs. And once in a blue moon one of us will queue into you and send a screen shot to cord that ‘snazzyboots is still around, and his boots are still not snazzy.’

You should live your legend and remedy this. I believe the whole of Azeroth would appreciate it, beyond just the two of us.

I am pretty sure the intention is to draw a wide range of players, the tiny minority of rated BG players are not much on their mind. If they were they would have put effort into fixing the broken old system.
