Blacksmithing crafting orders absurdly expensive by comparison

Agreed. I am leveling all of the professions and the materials costs on Blacksmithing orders is WAY beyond the other professions. Tailoring is probably second worst, but still nowhere near as bad.

They need to scrap some of the Epic orders for Knowledge and increase the Rare quality orders. (Or just re-configure the Epic orders to provide most of the Heavy Hitter materials.)

Adding to the pain, is that Blacksmithing needs the most KP to cap out, so that makes it feel even worse.

The rough spot for BS their epics take santified alloy which take profaned tinderboxes to craft two alloy before any multicraft procs. And the epics take 6-10 alloy plus whatever other materials are on deck.

They’re much cheaper now than earlier in the xpac but tinderbox prices are still tough.

So what? I don’t even do LW work orders anymore because I can make everything people ask me for, and I’m nowhere near filling out the tree.

People need to get over this obsession with filling in every bubble in the tree.

Like I said, its about parity.

Even without obsessing about filling every bubble. The simple point is that BS is notably out of whack compared to the other major gear crafting professions. And from that perspective it seems a bit “unfair”.

Nobody is asking for everything right now. They’re asking that what progress in the profession that has been eached over time not cost significantly more than other professions of equal parity.

LW KP is a fraction of the cost of BS so I’m not sure why you’re arguing when you’re already ahead for less.

Good news: They’re all free.

To be clear I actually like that KP are limited and you have to make decisions in what to specialize in in your profession. We should be able to respec given that, but that’s a different issue.

The problem is that some of the KP we’re supposed to have to work with is prohibitively expensive for no particular reason in ways that effect different professions unequally.

Early after the launch crafting a weapon felt like obtaining a legendary. Overall crafting in TWW seems better compared to DF, broke even way quicker with the same two professions.

You’re free to mail me some santified alloy then if your imagination is that capable of footing the bill. :+1:

Don’t do them all.

Be patient.

Show some self-restraint.

Get your points from the dig-up knicknacks.
Or from Darkmoon Faire.
Or from the weekly.
Or from the work orders that are “All” or “Some” with only the cheapo stuff empty.

That’s what I do. And I don’t even need more points.

Seeing “All” on a work orders feels like getting a low drop rate mount.

That mentality still puts BS behind other crafting professions exercising the same mentality and that disparity should be rectified sooner rather than later for obvious reasons.

Until you notice the payoff is 10 Acuity or something. :joy:

The cost of the mats is player-driven if you’re buying them off the AH rather than gathering the ore and crafting the alloys yourself. Blizz is relatively clueless in predicting the rarity-driven costs for mats as was evidence by having Null Stones be one of the weekly skill-up quest materials for mining, which caused a fit because at the time Null Stones were in the 2,000-4,000 gold range a pop. Look at today where the rate of the components to make a null stone were increased and you find them on the AH for less than 800 gold.

Similarly the cost of making even 2-star alloys, which are required for many of the BS Patron Orders, is very high because alloys don’t “drop” they have to be made by BS that specialized in alloys, so that’s naturally going to be more expensive than mats that “drop” from gathering nodes. Yet Blizz doens’t account for this in how “missing” mats are assigned for Patron Orders. Instead, it seems to be total RNG perhaps with an allocation like 20% ALL, 50% SOME, and 30% NONE, but no attention to the current AH cost of the missing mats.

That’s probably a non-trivial problem for them to solve aside from making it such that all profession crafts (including BS) can be made directly from gathered materials only (no more alloys, or concoctions, or cloth-bolts, or other intermediary “mats” that can’t be gathered directly).

Or just make all the catch-up orders rare quality. Those are cheap enough.

How about you show some restraint? You don’t have to participate in contrarianism or knee-jerk defense of the status quo for no reason whatsoever. You have contributed absolutely nothing to this thread.

I wish this was more viable. I have over 1000 Cavedweeler’s delight from digging up the knicknacks and I’ve only got 2 KP rewards so far on my smith.

Or they could provide the option of taking a lesser commission in exchange for the crafters consortium providing missing mats for NPC orders

For the profaned tinderboxes, you can try the reagent bags sold for 500 undercoins at the delves pavilion. You get three of the rare crafting items like gloomhides, ingots, and tinderboxes. While it’s random what you get, there are only five or six different items that can be in the sack, so the tinderboxes turn up pretty often. And if you don’t get one the other items sell quickly for 650-700 gold on the AH and you can then use that to break even with a tinderbox on the AH.

First place I go are the weekly hidden treasures at the Arathi farms for Spreading the Light. When you use a flickering torch you can see them and you get 5 torches for free from doing the weekly quest there to light 4 of the braziers.

It doesn’t solve the problem but it usually nets me 1-2 easy ones and sometimes a tinderbox. Some items have more than one possible spawn point, a coordinates addon like TomTom is really helpful. And there’s usually a bunch of wax around the farms to hit as well.

Not much but a little help. o/

Edit: Also if it wasn’t clear you’ll only ever find 2 per week per profession, there aren’t extra KP treasures per week as catch-ups the only catch-up KP are patron orders. You might know that already but just in case.
