What’s the containment thread?
People flipped out after Ion’s comments and flooded the forums with topics, so the moderators basically closed down and locked any High Elf thread. So there was a single thread that you could post about it in, The playable High Elf request megathread, or something… There were a few over the years. There was the opposite thread too, like, “Why High Elves don’t work, a Primer.”
But basically if you mentioned anything about playable High Elves outside of the megathread forum goers would just bash and troll you.
They still complain about it, but it’s not like it was.
Oh my gosh that’s horrible… Ion’s statement really offended a lot of people since the High elf concept was so popular.
Indeed. Whenever we asked for -anything- they just kept throwing “the Horde is waiting for you” combined with smug declarations of “enjoy your purple kool aid elves”
Someone made a good point earlier. The same people saying things like “blueberry elves” or “grape flavored elves” to mock us for not having high elf appearances are also the same ones today pretending they care about void elves and how cool and unique their looks are.
Essentially, there’s a lot of fake concern trolling going around.
Yeah. It was always the name of the game. You know, between saying all the High Elves should be killed in game and that they should give us Kul Tiran sized Elves.
That too. And the people who wanted high elves tried everything to compromise. They made their own models and art, they offered to use human models (so blood elf players wouldn’t get upset), suggested using night elf assets, etc.
Everything was met with constant mockery, twisting of the lore, intentional (or perhaps unintentional) obtuseness. That’s why it’s so cathartic when Blizzard vindicated us. It’s not like we had an entire faction war expansion with high elves being dangled in front of us in Island Expeditions, Warfronts and the battle in front of Orgrimmar.
Damn.
How did I know a thread about this would be started?
Void elves have gotten plenty. Let some other races get some stuff.
Meanwhile they have not got an actual customization pass dearie. It’s no surprise therefore that people are requesting some more stuff.
Ah, the Anti’s threads in arguments thinking they have more of a say, but guess what, high elves do work, and we got them
This will be our second pass though… What do you mean?
Do you think we got an actual pass? We only got skins and eyes because blood elves did, and now we’re getting hair colours and tentacle toggle because they originally where planning to just give us ear size options and after the outcry they changed their minds
Honestly, I am very happy that we are given this options to allow us to play as an Alliance High Elf, even if it is just terms of customisations. I would rather an actual High Elf as a seperate playable race, but well, beggers can’t be choosers.
And mass flagged. Back when I wanted High Elves as an allied race, there was this thread named “What’s your favorite race?” or something like that. I replied “High Elves!” and got mass flagged within the minute.
It really felt like a persecution, and I never understood why this obsession over what other people like or want in the game.
I’m glad with Void Elves as they are now, so there’s that at least. White, black and brown hair colors would be great indeed. I’d also love to see new sleek and elegant Void options though - scars, tattoos, asymmetric skin tones, tendril color and size options, EE skins, etc. When we get these options, that’s when I’ll consider it a proper pass for Void Elf customizations.
I’d consider it a pass both times, yes.
Don’t feel any particular way if you don’t so do not misconstrue my asking.
Honestly we didn’t get much less than the Blood Elves did all things told…
I imagine most would have fallen along that line.
I’d generally prefer all subraces/cultures be separate AR’s myself.
This would’ve been ideal.
I’m not sure why they stopped the AR design. It was a good idea imo. Just the unlocking process was a bit tedious sometimes.
Yeah, I am greatful that we have got the customisations instead. Having something is better than nothing
Yeah… I personally think that format was better for both immersion and player agency. I also get that it has its drawbacks. Some fixable easily like just not having annoying grinds to unlock them, and others less so. Like lacking customization options and no real cities or hubs added.
No, these changes were always on the table when sub numbers fall. The very same tactic they have been using for almost everything else, like lifting transmog-restrictions.
Perhaps I am wrong but when speaking about a proper pass I had more in mind getting some unique options. Like new hairstyles, tattoos for both races, and some void related customization. But maybe we’re just getting small passes over time since we’re a popular race xx let’s be positive
While we got rather light high elf options this time in just hair colors (oddly sans brown and black…) and ear options (if you’re into that) I imagine later down the line when its applicable we’ll see more void options added as well as other options that may continue the High elf trend.
I mean so far all we’ve gotten has been helpful for the high elf end of things so I wouldn’t expect them to quit at this point. More will come in time.
