I cant play WoW… i got home… an update was on the laucher… then when i press the Play blue button i got a black screen i can only hear the intro song … i can play anything else… the problem is only on WoW… c mon developers… help! x)
Hey friend, remember me? From the other thread? I just figured out a work around. You have to go to the wow .exe and run compatability mode windows 8. For some ungodly with zero logic reason (some dx error?) it works.
Blizzard: Get your poop together
that “compatibility” worked for me x) looool ahaha freakin blizzard is not my problem that i have windows 10 x)
Yeah i don’t know dude. that fix shouldn’t work but here we are. Your graphics settings will have dropped, You will need to set them up again.
Mine is windows 7(hate 10 and 8), i updared a while a go, tried to launch and the games stops working.
Tried disabling all addons, turned off antivirus and everything. Still nothing, i’m running a repair now to see if it works.
OMG OMG OMG!!! That thing where you enable Windows 8 compatibility? Even though I use Windows 10?? IT WORKED!!
I didn’t have to reset my UI (and lose my settings, my addon settings etc.) JUST THIS LITTLE CHANGE. There must be something wrong with the game (after the most recent little patch, done on December 13th) for us to have to do this.
I hope the CMs get the word out in case the players with this or similar problems, don’t see this or the other thread. I DID see it but didn’t really understand it. I thought the person with the problem was playing in Windows 8. >.<
I’m about to go try compatibility mode and see if it helps, seems semi-logical because prior to this patch I had to run in admin mode or I’d get the same problem. I hope that’s an easy fix, but add me to the list of folks having this issue.
not sure why that seems to have worked, but thank you!
Howdy!
Can you all with this issue post your Dxdiag for us to review? Copy and paste the Dxdiag contents into your reply, hightlight it then use the code block icon </>.
Thank you!
CRYMOAR
ty… you are a saint
mines too long, Zuvykree. Forum won’t let me post it.
same, mine is way too long for this forum. can we email them to you?
Mines also too long, but I’ve submitted a patch bug report with it attached already. I’m still following this if more info from us is needed.
FYI - I was having this problem. Setting the compatibility mode to windows 8 worked. After it logged in and reset my video settings and took off compatibility mode and the game launched no problem. I noticed DX11 was being used at that point so I changed it to DX12 and startup was failing again.
Finally I updated my geforce display drivers to the latest and my game is launching no problem now with dx12 selected.
I hope this works for you all. Good luck.
My drivers are up to date, it was the first thing I checked. I’ve always used default settings so I’m unsure what else to change to attempt to fix the problem but I can’t take mine out of compatibility mode without it failing, so I can’t switch back to DX12. Even in compatibility mode its practically unplayable do to imput lag.
It’s pretty late in the day on a friday now, so I’m assuming I just won’t be playing WoW much this weekend. Hoping someone figures this out here, or I get a response to my ticket, or we hear back how to send those Dxdiag files, anything…
i copy and paste the DxDiag and is telling me that i cant put links on the replay sorry x)
My bug report got a reply this morning advising me that my drivers were out of date (they weren’t) and to tun off the game bar I didn’t even realize was running in the background, and then take WoW out of compatibility mode and then be sure it was using directx12 not 11… so i uninstalled/reinstalled graphics drivers, did everything else I was told and it worked! so I cleared my ticket, and about an hour later, it broke again. I’m back in win8 compatibility mode as thats the only solution I’ve found that allows me to play but it would be nice to get an actual fix. I’m re-submitting my ticket and I’ll post if I get a working answer.
Hey, all!
If you are running into this issue it is likely being caused by an outdated Windows version. Please make sure you have the newest build of Windows and it should resolve the issue you are having.
i have a windows 10 fully uptodate… and latest Nvidia drivers for my gtx 970 ssc…
and i still cant run WoW in Dx12… i have to add the console line ( -d3d11) in order the make it work… so no Dx12 for me. for now
Based on your very recent crash report, you are on build 10586, which is 3 years out of date.
