Black Friday aint what it used to be

So i went to walmart today they had a PS5 digital with FortNite ( like who wants to play that ) for $395 lol… i mean i can just go out and buy it for $399 with no sale, considering its a 4 year old game console , not sure that happened to black Friday

Well, yeah.

It used to be known to be the day for the biggest savings before the holidays, now corporations realized it could be a way to get people to buy crap they don’t exactly need.

Stuff that people actually want is rarely on sale anymore. Especially consoles and stuff.

Edit: And if it is, it’s like a paltry ~$20 bucks off lol, not exactly huge savings.

As Garrosh once said, “times change”.

I wanted a PS5 a while ago, but I’ve got a decent PC and no games seem to be exclusive to warrant the purchase.

I’ve got a Switch for Nintendo stuff, that’s basically it lol.

Isn’t Cyber Monday more an actual deal?

Imo it’s become less of an individual day for savings, and more of a general period of time before Christmas.

Which kind of lessens the impact of Black Friday.

If you use Amazon, be sure to double check with CamelCamelCamel.

Its an Amazon price tracker. Lets you know if the item that is currently priced on sale at 299 with a regular price of 349 was already 299 before it went “on sale”

black friday doesn’t mean its dollar tree

For real…

I was at Walmart earlier myself and honestly didn’t really see anything that made me think “omg i GOTTA have it”, the store was pretty tame/subdued and the other people walking around didn’t even look excited - looked like “just another day”

The whole “hype” thing with Black Friday is kinda wore out by now. It’s like… just how many heavily discounted TVs do they (the big box stores pushing these sales) think people need??? :face_with_spiral_eyes: I have 2 TVs in my place, one larger 55" in the living room and a smaller 32" in my bedroom… I see no point in buying a new one every year just because “omg its Black Friday!” :man_facepalming:

I got my ps4 for 199 like 10 years ago for black friday

Hell, I got a ~$250 television for like $78 on a Black Friday once.

It was from Best Buy.

I’ll never forget that, was in high school at the time.

Never got a Black Friday deal that was that good, ever again lol.

Maybe it’s because folks don’t replace their TVs often lol.

They’re probably backloaded with too many of 'em.

I’ll take some cheap TVs lol, several even.

Was watching a video the other day about game releases, and it’s safe to say midnight releases are dead.

End of an era.

We’re oversaturated with special sales these days to the point that they aren’t particularly effective anymore.

I still vividly remember a giant line of nerds standing outside a nearby BestBuy in freezing cold around like ~11:40 PM the night TBC was set to release back in January 2007

I was towards the back of the (rather long) line of nerds, I remember standing there for what seemed like forever in like 15°-16° temperatures waiting for 12 AM when they would let us in/officially start selling TBC boxes :cold_face::cold_face:

Ah, the memories :relieved:

You can’t find a console that isn’t bundled with a game these days. I got my PS5 bundled with God of War Ragnarok back when I bought mine.

I did curbside grocery pickup today and saw more t.v.s and other electronics come out the pickup door than I would’ve thought possible That’s the type of black Friday shopping I could get behind.

Quick side-note on this: anyone else notice the mysterious absence of those “Black Friday brawl” videos of people physically fighting over Black Friday items?

I guess people are simply tapped out and too broke to provide us with the usual entertaining videos of uncivilized behavior/random fistfights and such

I was just thinking about it this morning, first thing I did was Google for such “Black Friday brawl” videos - but almost nothing came up :flushed:

A lot of people got rid of their tv’s. Except smart tv’s but even then, just get a 2nd monitor and watch tv while being online.

Works just as good and it’s a lot cheaper.

With all the riots a few years ago along with some states/cities deciding they wouldn’t bother with any shoplifters if the amount being stolen was under $900, I think that kind of killed any enthusiasm for Black Friday brawls.

They just had all the brawls on any other day instead.
