So I love the changes to Arcane mage, but I am still having issues with it and I dont know why. When I POP the CD’s I peak at about 250K DP, but I cant maintain and seem to be around 150K-180K DPS. Im not getting many Clearcasting to have arcane missile up just feel like something is off. I am doing what Icey Veins and WoW head say and just, feel like my DPS isnt there it should be. Any advice other than “get good” or “Suck less”?
I’ve had roughly the same experience, with my opener I start off at around 400k DPS, falling down, by the time my cooldowns come off CD, I am usually at 190k DPS, after using my cooldowns they go back to 210k before slowly falling down again, and yeah, I barely get any CC procs.
Weird thing is, I noticed this more with the target dummy, when I did the world boss to try out the spec, I managed to maintain a consistent 260k, I don’t know whats up with that.
The game play feels good, but the Proc for the arcane missiles feels off and a bit to random. Maybe its bugged some how? Otherwise, it just is a lot of fun to play.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it is bugged, from what I noticed, Fire Mage seems to also have some sort of problem, particularly with ignite, I can barely reach 200k on Fire.
Frost seems to be the only spec that is working as intended right now.
I wouldnt Either. we have a long down time this Tuesday, so maybe we will get lucky and it will be all fixed up!
So, regarding the target dummy, the reason why the DPS suddenly drops is that casters at one point or another reset the dummy due to the lack of constant damage, eventually you will cast something and the dummy will drop combat.
If you check your segments in Details, you will see that your previous one should have capped around 250k DPS or so before starting your current one that should be sitting at 200K or less due to your second ToTM.
You are echoing the rest of us, same feedback, same issues, it’s a struggle right now.
The best I can do is speculate that they are relying so heavy on hero talents for arcane’s power that without them it plays soft/weak. Clearcasting is stupid low right now, which makes every dependent aspect of play suck. It’s the classic “it’ll get better in the future” line, but for now I’m just done with it.
My fear is it’s not actually better once we get into the hero talents, we just get further behind and end up with no real reasonable choice, because one of the three hero specs will be so far ahead of the others that we can only really pick one to be competitive.
The target dummies are currently bugged with fire and arcane, atm. In raid my totm can and has done up to 2.3M damage (it’s possible to squeeze more in there, but I still need to refine my use of rotations), but in mythic+ and target dummies it might just barely do more than 300k. Ignite does significantly less on tagret dummies and mythic+.
The missiles talents are not bugged anymore. They’ve been fixed for a week now.
You’re way undergeared an unoptimized. Even though its prepatch and you shouldn’t sweat it that much, you also shouldn’t expect more at 493 itemlvl.
There’s not much more that anyone can tell you there.
Yes, I have the same dread myself. Nothing like working on the macros, weak auras, and muscle memory necessary to try to get all the working parts to actually work only to find out that they really just don’t. I was looking forward to the expansion, but now I am just not sure.
Thanks.
I really hate the idea of Hero Talents nerfing the spec/class for the first 70 levels of play. I usually play Frost, but I like swapping to Arcane here and there. I may just stick to Frost until they fix Arcane because no clearcasting procs is no fun.
I just said in this thread that the procs were fixed last week
There’s nothing wrong unless you’re not taking illuminated thoughts, in which case you’re just nerfing yourself.
I have also been told to look into Frost. Would be a big change for me since I have played Arcane since the original Burning Crusade. But buggy procs with really low chances actually TO proc does not impress me either.
I cannot believe they worked the entire spec around the Hero Talents. I guess they think no one actually levels in their game anymore.
Thanks.
I don’t think they where, they aren’t procing enough. Gear doesn’t dictate how many procs you get. Right now, It barely procs at all. It needs to be increased if it isn’t bugged and was “Fixed” last week as you say.
The discord mods and peeps in alter time have tested and checked the spell data changes.
It’s fixed, and i never said gear dictates the procs. If you actually bothered to read my different responses properly then you would get it.
I’m trying to help y’all out here by relaying this info from the server, but if this is what the response to that is then there’s no point in bothering. You’ll just be in here calling arcane bad while the rest of us are seeing no issues aside from the totm bug in mythic+ and enjoying our time
Tested and checked what exactly? Nothing has been changed for them to test. The devs massively nerfed the CC proc rate when they decoupled it from mana spent. The proc rate was then slightly buffed once and hasn’t been touched since then.
Arcane Blast needs to have at least a ~25% chance to proc CC to make the spec feel smooth to play, imo. It was around 28% before and it still didn’t feel like it proced enough. I also think something needs to be done to Aether Attunement to better integrate it into the AoE rotation since the entire point and main appeal of the talent is that it makes AMs cleave.
There is still a lot of room for improvement but nothing will get done before the expansion launches nor really any time soon since they’ll will likely wait until after the first raid releases to look at the data first.
Seems to be playing a little better today after the update.
I can confirm, I’m getting more CC procs today than I was yesterday, or something changed, but it feels better.
No wonder they refuse to interact with some of you here…
Who is “they?” The devs or the theorycrafters? If the former I can’t remember the last time a dev has interacted with anyone on the Mage forums directly. If the latter, they quite literally never leave their preferred platforms whether it’s Discord or Reddit. In both cases they all live in their echo chambers and are completely unwilling to listen to criticism let alone engage in any kind of discourse. It’s really ironic that you would bring up not wanted to hear what others have to say in this context.
But for the record, I will say that I can’t take anyone who believes the gameplay currently is in a good spot seriously because it absolutely isn’t, even with the CC proc rate aside.
