A white warning box appears when I hit play in Battle.net telling me that I need to update my BIOS. This just started yesterday 1/10/25 after 5PM CST. Was not displayed earlier that day. No update was requested nor warning that an upgrade to WOW or its launcher appeared. Wondering what is going on as the conditions it states for needing the update are not present. The computer it is complaining about is about 1 year old.
I get the same thing. I came here looking for explanations of why this is popping up and realized that a 20-year-old game wants me to update to the most recent BIOS while still running 2009 problems and 2010 graphics.
Bluey, please let us know why this new pop-up is happening without making notes available to the public.
Because it’s not a Blizzard problem and it’s not Blizzard’s responsibility to explain the issue with 13th/14th gen Intel processors. They’re just recommending that you update your BIOS. There’s plenty of reading material online discussing the instability problems with those CPUs.
And that’s why I went with AMD.
This should explain a little more.
The issue isn’t with WoW, it’s an issue with your CPU. If you do not upgrade your bios, you will most likely kill your CPU at some point, much sooner than it would typically die/become obsolete.
Honestly, I’m impressed that Blizzard cares enough to make a warning popup. Whike a lot of people know about the Intel issues, so many more do not and would have no idea they are actively harming their cpu.
So you would rather blizzard not say anything about a potential problem with certain CPU’s that could potentially destroy some people’s computers.
I would rather be told of possible problems if I wasn’t savvy with what’s going on with my computers, some spend several thousand dollars and more building systems and do not have resources to immediately replace a piece that fails because of an issue.
Intel is the one responsible for the mess no one else. Blizzard is being responsible and letting everyone know of a potential problem.
Point blame for this in the required place the companies that are not issuing bios updates in a timely manner.
I’ve spent months toying with this very message. Blizzard is telling us exactly what to do! Your bios needs updated, I updated mine to the most current update release via ez in bios using a thumb drive. You may be able to via windows update, ez in bios, or some other software like myasus. All you do is grab the updated bios off your official site, put it on a usb drive, boot up bios and point to the new file on your thumb drive it’ll start to update do a reboot and that’s it. Good luck guys
Is there anyway to make this so we can accept the error and move on and not have it pop up every time we launch the game? Lenovo has not released a bios update since August for my system and I can do nothing about it.
Not that I’m aware of. In the meantime, you can reach out to Lenovo.
I have, spent about 2 hours going round and round with them in chat. They say there isn’t anything wrong and Blizzard needs to tweak their warning. Never mind, you show them all the screen shots of the wrong bios and a link to the intel article. Oh well…
I and others have gone through this with MSI pre-builts as well. If Blizzard insists on putting up the message players need a way to tell the game not to show it again.
Thing is that companies that do pre built machines do it to the lowest possible cost as they are trying to bring the product into market for an acceptable price for them not you.
They cut corners with products that would not normally work with some components to get the best bang for buck out of said product and usually out of date, end of line components they bought cheap. A problem for over 20 years.
They have only ever done bios updates when they have been dragged kicking and screaming to actually do something. And if it’s cost effective for them to do the update, which currently seems to be the case.
