"World of Warcraft has detected your computer is using ..."

First time ever seeing this message pop up before. I logged on a bit ago to play and was met with a message that says the following,

"World of Warcraft has detected your computer is using an Intel 13th or 14th generation processor that does not have the proper updates installed to address potential processor instability issues. It is highly recommended to update the BIOS on your motherboard to the latest version with Intel’s microcode 0x12B or later.

CPU Name: Intel(R) Core ™ i9-14900KF
BIOS Release Date: 12/19/2023
Microcode version: 0x11D

I am not tech savvy. My PC is a pre-built from CLX. Never had anything like this until today. Not sure what to do or if this is going to cause issues with me playing (game runs perfectly). Any advice/guidance on what this is and what to do?

I would highly recommend contacting CLX if that is who you purchased you PC from and ask about BIOS updates for your system. They will likely be able to provide you the support you need. If you’re BIOS is up to date and has a newer microcode than what Blizzard is warning about, that’s a good thing.

I am also getting this. Not sure what I need to do. Where do I need to go to update?

I also got this error right now. I been playing WoW a few hours ago and this hasn’t popped up until now suddenly.

Same here. It started just after an update went through at the launcher at around 7 pm CST: not before. I just hit the “okay” button on the pop-up box and could still play. I smell a Blizzard issue here. Sit tight folks and see where this goes.

I am also having this issue with my 13th gen i7-13700KF on a Lenovo 376A Motherboard. There are no updates on Lenovo’s Vantage, System updater, or Window updater. This was not a problem until I had a patch at about 7:45 pm est tonight. It doesn’t look like there is a bios update for the motherboard either.

Glad to know I’m not alone. It was really sudden on my end, too. I checked for updates for my BIOS and there aren’t any.

I am too dumb and scared to flash my bios with an update

Are you confident in your ability to fully replace processor? If not, I’d definitely suggest looking into it. It’s a very serious issue. blizzard is trying to save your cpu from literally roasting itself and becoming defective (resulting in crashing).

Started seeing this tonight as well, but no BIOS updates available from Lenovo for my 2024 Legion PC. Last BIOS update they released was in September. Game still launches but Blizz should probably give people a head’s up via the forums if they’re going to start popping up this warning every time you launch the game, along with an explanation of why they’re displaying the warning in the first place.

Yea you are right. I was being a bit facetious and self deprecating because I have had bad experiences in the past with motherboard and bios things.

I think its a tough thing for the more casual pc gamer to have to accept issues like these and how the solutions aren’t always intuitive or straight forward.

But thanks for the comment - it gave me confidence to just pull the trigger and update it. Think all went well.

I HIGHLY recommend not taking this lightly - Update your bios - the update may be from September or earlier. But still just update the latest version

Lenovos September update is 0x129 and there has not been a release of a 0x12b so the 2024 Lenovo Legion tower cant be update.

UPDATE: I was able to Flash my BIOS. It’s actually easy… My dad also Works in the IT field so I called and yapped at him until he told me what to do which was. Go on manufacturer website, download latest BIOS file, extract folder, click folder, grab a specific file, transfer to a USB drive, restart PC, click the “Del” key, you’ll enter BIOS, select M-Flash, select yes to auto-reboot, you’ll then enter M-flash mode in which you select your USB drive, click on the file you downloaded, select yes to start BIOS update, your PC should restart and everything should be all good… Unless it isn’t. But for me it worked. If you have an MSI motherboard they also have a YouTube video on how to do it!

I got this error as well just not an hour ago. I googled it and found out there is an issue with Intel 13th and 14th generation processors starting from April 2024.

Apparently the chips are being fed too much voltage and irreversibly degraded the chips over time. Intel has extended the warranty of the chips by two years. I think this was Blizzard’s way of mass notifying people as this is a critical issue on Intel’s part of which they did not inform customers. Or at least actively inform customers. Unless you were checking for motherboard BIOS updates on a monthly basis or read tech industry sites daily, it would be missed.

I tried to paste the link for the article I found on The Verge but I am getting an error about posting the link, smh.

After further research, I found out I can’t post links until I reach “Trust Level 3”. I rarely post though I’ve been subbed to WoW on and off since 2004. I guess that means nothing. Anyway, if one searches “intel 13th gen processor the verge”, should yield the article results.

Just got the same error after updating. Lenovo 376A motherboard. No BIOS updates reflecting in Lenovo Vantage. Not sure what to do.

Well I’m not doing all that. Because I do not have a valid USB for it right now.

I guess I’m screwed? Bye, WoW, it’s been real
