Hmmm. I stand corrected.
Biggest fear is that fundamentally, nothing changes.
MM has had varying degrees of mobility depending on expansion.
- Vanilla - Aimed Shot, Multi-Shot, Auto Shot all require you to stand still.
- BC - Same as above but add Steady Shot.
- WotLK: Aimed Shot is instant with a 10 sec CD. Multi-Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot are all still immobile.
- Cataclysm: Auto-Shot loses its standstill requirement early on. Iām pretty sure by this time Multi-Shot also lost its standstill requirement but I donāt know exactly when. Aimed Shot is a standstill cast again but spamming Arcane Shot instead is only a small DPS loss and there was a proc that made Aimed Shot instant.
- MoP: Glyph exists to make Aimed Shot castable while moving. Steady Shotās standstill requirement is removed in 5.1. This was the only time MM could do full DPS while moving.
- WoD: Aimed Shot is castable while moving, but the specās mastery is now Sniper Training which is a buff that requires periods of standstill.
- Legion: Sniper Training is now a baked in passive but Aimed Shot is once again an immobile cast that must be spammed during Vulnerable windows, an RPPM-limited mechanic.
- BFA: Vulnerable windows are gone, Aimed Shot is now on a charge system meaning you have more freedom over when you have to stand still.
Iām not really looking forward to seeing how the devs do hunters dirty in Shadowlands.
Look, Conflict & Strife is proof-positive that the devs have no idea how to play the class, actually hate the class, or just love screwing with hunter players. You know what the major power of that Conflict & Strife is? One PVP talent applied to all PVE content, so just imagine the possibilitiesā¦
- Marksman could have gotten Trueshot Mastery, Scatter Shot, or Sniper Shot. Making them GD DPS terrors.
- Beastmaster could have gotten Wild Protector or The Beast Within. Giving their pets added utility in end game content.
- Survival could have gotten Sticky Tar or Mending Bandage. Making them even better at CC or better at surviving.
All of the specs would have benefitted from using Survival Tactics, Roar of Sacrifice, or Hunting Pack. You know what hunters get? High-Explosive Trap: the one talent that almost no hunter wants to use for PVE content, and thatās what the devs pick.
For the PvP talents, it could go either way to me. We couldāve gotten a very op PvP passive or gotten just another potentially useless ability.
I donāt know why they provide extra utility for PVP players to begin with. It seems like it makes the class more confusing, not less confusing, to have different buttons you can press depending on the scenario. I donāt know about you, but my fingers have muscle memory. I would rather not see my buttons get disabled and enabled depending on the content I do.
