These people are 100% reactionary players. There is literally no foresight, no strategy, no understanding of actual defense or deterrence. They are just hearing horns go off and running to the opposite colors on the map.
There are way too many people upset and with proof they were not AFK for anyone to have evidence that they were all AFK. Blizz messed up and now we just wait for them to remedy it just like the past wrongful bans.

I know 22 people across 3 guilds that got banned for this. A truly insane figure. Did some of them AFK from time to time? Probably. But I know for a fact they weren’t AFK to the point of abusing the system to the point of bans.
It is a truly insane situation we find ourselves in. Clearly an automated response banning wave that is totally unnessessary. They have debuffs in the game that handles this. It will remove you from the game if you go afk. you will get a debuff that stops you from getting honor. If these things are not working banning is not the solution. Because now on discords I am seeing the SOLUTION TO QUES is to report everyone to see in BGs defending a tower.

AV is an AFK BG. If you don’t like it force Blizzard to add RDF or do another BG. It’s that simple. With RDF players will have another avenue to level.

Harpies gave me 300 XP per kill not rested. When me and my friends were in the cave doing it. It’s pretty good XP. Not as good as RDF. If we had RDF we would have done that instead, but open world leveling was impossible.

That is a ridiculous argument. I’ve played the same way I’ve played for the last 17 years, never once have I ever been suspended/banned/had any adverse action on my account in this game. On my other account I ‘actively’ participated in completing objectives in 187 AV games on a boosted rogue since Tuesday, that account is now suspended for 30 days for non-participation. Because YOU’ve never been affected by it does NOT mean it is working ‘just fine’.
Oh no I’m sure that the combination of BG’s giving honor, the exp bonus and that people are leveling alts contributed to a spike in leachers in AV.

If they can do an investigation to determine a person they banned was NOT in fact an AFKer, they can look with that level of prudence ahead of time, or apply some of those standards or metrics. They’re clearly rushing using gimped data. I don’t know what amount of people were falsely banned, or what percentage of these bans were false bans, and it’s almost certain we’ll never know because why would Blizzard admit that? However, if it is happening on a wide enough scale, there is a problem.
Furthermore, to claim you know how Blizzard bans simply because of a statement they’ve made is truly naive. That’s like saying United Airlines does their due diligence before kicking people off of flights, just because the CEO says so. Of course they’re going to claim that. Of course they’re going to say a person manually reviewed it. What took place in that review? I don’t know, and you don’t know, but if many people are getting falsely banned for “AFKing” AV during a prepatch when there are tons of boosters who know playing that BG is the most effective way to get honor, then there is a problem with their system and you should be on our side wanting to see it get fixed.
