Conduits are what I considered for renown (since to put them in, it’s tied directly to renown level).
Though I admit, I did forget about stygia.

Well, you unlock soulbind rows through renown, but you absolutely have to grind conduits outside of it.

It’s difficult for me to rank them altogether because at Cata, it became a different kind of game. I like waffles and eggs, but it’s hard to say which is better. BC edges out wrath for me because of LFD introduction.
Pre- cata,
BC > Wrath > Vanilla
Post Lich King:
Legion > Mop > SL > Cata > BfA > WoD

I mean, I guess. I would consider that part of the stygia grind. Can get all of the conduits to 200 by just doing callings. Everything past that is tied to Stygia, isn’t it?
Overall, the grind isn’t as bad IMO. There’s an end in sight unlike say, Artifact Power from Legion where it was a constant grind that was directly tied to player power. I only remember azerite vaguely, I skipped out on most of BFA after 8.1 to be frank.

Shadowlands they front loaded it and now are adding MORE.
What the hell was better lmao aside from being still on Azeroth 'cause SL really sucks IMO.

Anima rewards are insane. Like I get that they are cosmetics, but its too much for one covenant alone. Imagine trying to get all 4 covenants for all 4 armor types. Also, gear barely drops, I’ve been playing since WOD and I feel like I rarely get an item from raid bosses or mythic. The only way I have geared up my 205 warrior is through worldquests, vaults and weekend events. I have yet to get a 200+ ivl two handed weapon from a mythic or the raid.

Anima I think really only sucks for collectors. It’s completely untied from player power, so I don’t mind that it’s there.
I do agree, that for some of the rewards it’s asking a lot for you. And God help you if you have swapped covenants like I have haha.
I think the gear issue is most notable in raiding tbh. Mythics I can get stuff from the vault or the occasional mythic. Loot drops should be increased overall.
Dungeons, callings, and raiding. You get higher level ones from stygia (which I noted earlier, I forgot about and explained how that ties into conduits).
My overall point, which I think is fair to disagree with, is I really don’t think SL is as grindy as the previous two expansions. I’m not saying there is no grind at all. I don’t feel like there is an endless chase for power and continual upkeep for wanting to play my alts, for example.

It’s hard to compare it becoz it’s just Shadowlands 9.0. But comparing Shadowlands 9.0 to BFA 8.0, I would prefer Shadowlands 9.0.
Yeah, loots are raining in BFA. But it’s raining Garbage loots. Loots is dictated by bad RNG. In Shadowlands, the Vault gives you option to put RNG in your favor. What’s the result? I have 23 consecutive weeks of Vault Upgrades… All upgrades. Unlike on BFA, I have series of weeks of garbage weekly cache dictated by broken dice. In like 26 weeks, I am already doing M+15s. In 26 weeks in BFA, I was like below M+10s with the same Casual play time I have. SHadowlands pushed me to do at least 4x Mythic+ in a week and even give me incentives to sometimes do 10x M+. In BFA, I would just do 1x M+ and that’s it. I am more active with M+ now than before.

Having to re-grind the same conduits over and over again, even if veiled by currency, is carrying into 9.1. It’s a real shame.
Oribos is the worst hub that we’ve ever had.

I’m not saying there is no grind, so don’t get me wrong there. I understand your issue there. I just think, if we’re comparing to the more recent previous expansions, it’s not quite as bad. There’s at least and end to it eventually unlike Artifact Power for instance.
Because it’s not grindy, that’s how.
And a lot of us on this forum are perpetually confused when people say it is grindy, because nobody seems able to point out to us what these supposed “grinds” are.
No problem, I will raid too then. I think M+ didnt drop Corrupted gear in BFA. BFA forced me to Raid to get Corruption especially the Corrupted Weapon. ANd it forced me to do Horrific Visions to get BiS gear becoz of the drop of gear with sure corruption. I will play everything that is required as long as it is not PvP. Hope I would have enough play time for it though.
