BFA was an above average expansion

It was alright. I enjoyed some parts more than others. BFA really got me into trolls

It was raid or die and no flight until the last zone was added. I didn’t like the way spriest played either and I’m glad they got rid of Mind Spike. It was fun at first but got old soooooo fast. At least BfA has things to do besides raid (which admittedly, I didn’t do in BfA).

Neither of them are nearly as good as Legion or MoP.

ok i have to admit your post is really long and i am too high to have the desire to focus for that long but for me personally i disagree, BFA was not a good expansion for me.

The reason behind that is my experience with all the “expansion features” were some what disappointing.

War mode was pretty disappointing, warfronts was VERY disappointing, islands were kinda boring to me.

the sad part is that the most interesting part of the expansion for me were the Allied races, and honestly when the most exciting part of an expansion is making a character with different animations and character models…

Yeah all my favorite classes were better in WoD. That for sure colors my perspective on it.

I really disliked the story in general. I felt like a lot of great opportunities (Azshara, N’zoth, the morally grey war) were kind of just thrown at us with no interesting ramifications.

My main felt all right, leveling was fun, dungeons were pretty good, PvP wasn’t STUPID broken (about normal broken).

The dailies and Timeless Island life got tedious really fast, and swapping alts felt like more of a punishment than normal.

Didn’t raid much, so no comments there.

Overall, yeah, I’d say middle of the road. I liked it more than Cata, but the only thing I liked about Cata was RBGs.

Alliance felt like we were watching the Horde’s story again, but at least this time there wasn’t a robot cat.

Drustvar was pretty cool, but that’s about the extent of really good things I can think of. Oh Flynn was fun. So two things.

As far as the way classes played, I preferred MoP over any of them since.

BfA was my least favorite expansion of all time.

BfA lucked out with the coronavirus. People under lockdown or stay at home orders at some point during the first six months of 2020 probably had idle time to level their alts (after gorging on so much lower quality Netflix content).

In that sense, BfA was good enough but I doubt the devs had planned for a pandemic back in 2016-2018 when BfA was in development.

The story alone probably pushes it below WoD for me, and I never thought I’d say that after WoD. But this story…a retread is a previous expansion that did it better, probably not the best idea in the world. The expansion itself sold as a return to HvA, yet that ended in 8.1. They wasted a great villain in N’Zoth and Zul, and the whole faction conflict was only even there because characters had to be written horribly stupid for some of the plans to even work.

I don’t hate the story because the story made me feel emotions towards it, I hate the story because it was written horrifically.

Had a guild that had remnants from Vanilla, made it almost 15 years and this was the expansion that finally put it down, mind you Classic came out and some went there but yeah…

This is/was beyond a trash tier expansion and if blizzard actually had dignity or pride over their work they would agree it was just a terrible expansion from start to finish buuuut they never admit to failure unless its to promote a new system to try and build hype.

Personally I’ve found the last two expansions to be pretty dull with legion being worse that bfa.

Ehhh I definitely say it was way better than Wod but it sure wasn’t a good xpac

I am pretty happy it’s almost over lol.

Corruptions made the game unplayable for alts or returning players.

Not sure any other expansion has ever managed that.

It had fun content, but Blizzard launched it without actually getting everything properly polished and ready. Then they had to scramble to fix some classes, and systems

A lot of classes that were lacking were also just patched with systems instead of being designed to stand on their own. Probably another casualty of Blizzard trying to make a deadline

The raids were meh. BoD was good, the rest were forgettable… Which is sad considering we fight 2 of the biggest players in lore (Azshara and N’Zoth). Ny’alotha had a pretty lame ending imo. You’re telling me I meme beamed an old gods to death? K…

Some of the systems also could have been good, but Blizzard refused to actually put time and effort into them. Island expeditions are one example. That system could be really fun, but they just implemented it, and immediately abandoned it.

There was also warfronts. This could’ve really been fun. Like big epic battles if done right. But Blizz in typical fashion abandoned them right after launch… they could’ve also made a PvP version of them.

Visions were another victim of this, but they’re newer so maybe we’ll see more.of them

There was also a significant lack of attention to PvP. The hearing system is the worst we’ve ever had. Oh, you started the expansion late? Have fun grinding 3 months of useless gear before you even allowed to get current gear drops. It was total trash

Honestly, I’d say it was below average, and the art and music teams carried it (as usual) to slightly above average

Overall, 6ish / 10 for me.

Edit, forgot corruption. That was a… System I guess? Just layered rng on rng and called it “content”. Mostly just used to drag out subs for the final patch. So I deduct a point

5/10 from me

I did not play since cata, came back a month ago, I would lie if I said it wasn’t fun. I didn’t enjoy too much essences as a returning player. I felt I was far too much behind.

The neck and cape were also annoying, got my cape to 15 and neck to 90 but it sure was annoying especially that I couldn’t fly and seeing everyone on their flying mount depressed me.

Corruption was an interesting concept but rely far too much on randomness. I could imagine corruption 2.0 being you making pact with the jailer, then the grasp of the jailer would be stronger and stronger. A bit like what the people who wore the helm of domination felt .

Being a returning player or was also impossible for me to run older bfa raids. Group takes forever and the only groups are the sellers for mounts. So I can’t speak about the raids to much.

BFA’s theme for anything related to your character was “Fun, once you have it, but good luck getting it.”

WOD was better by a mile. The classes were a lot more fun to play.

I loved BFA.
It was extremely fun.
Were there issues? Sure. Was it perfect? No. That’s fine.
I’ve had a blast.
Played since Vanilla, and i think Legion was the best expansion, WOTLK was second best, and BFA was my favorite after that.
Come at me.

This expansion as a whole was terrible.
Some of the ideas they came up with in general were not bad, but it seemed like they tried to cram too many ideas in at once, while leaving some half-finished or sub-par quality, when they really could have polished it better.
My biggest gripe is the different systems stacked together were just too many.
I did like the concept of the corruption is a system, but personally, I would not have implemented until the Azerite one was retired.
Azerite Armor
Azerite Essences
Corruption and resistance balancing

The corruption took it too far. Too much too soon.

Too much of the important aspects of this expansion were heavily RNG based and/or timegated, and not for any particular reason other than to keep people waiting (subbed) longer.
The one good thing about BFA was Drustvar… that zone was, the story, everything… was just awesome.

But you’re talking this expansion up like it was WoD when it wasn’t even close…
