BFA vs Classic

its way over due if you consider star wars galaxies came out just a year later i think, and it already had tons of different ways to change your characters appearance and i do mean tons lol

i was an image designer in the game and i could change other players hair color/style/tattoos/frills/ridges/weight/height/gills/eye shape/eye color/eye slant/eyebrow length/eyebrow height/ears/ear size/lips/lip width/lip color etc etc etc. it was so fine tuned, i could change fur patterns on wookies for goodness sakes, how tall their skulls were, how wide their shoulders were. it was amazingly detailed.

that game has already came and went. and wow still has pretty much the same engine with some tweaks, that it had back then when other games had super detailed character creation. this has only served to teach them that how your character looks is not nearly as important as how fun the game is to play. thus why they aren’t in a hurry to change it.

Indeed it is… Blizzard has a LOT of work to do in regard to catching up to the modern world.

But since we’re talking about an ancient game, I think you’re going to enjoy this…

Interesting video, he seems to have more insight than the current dev team into what fun is. Like his statement about something weird being in the game and nerfing it but the players are used to it and enjoy it.

My own personal example of that would be flight, maybe it was suboptimal in it’s implementation, but I got used to it, and now it’s nothing more than a 9k goldsink while you’re leveling through Outland, Northrend, Cata, and/or Panda. I wanted to try just not buying flight once but it’s SO convenient and at least you can use it in the capitals. They let the genie out of the bottle on that one.

I’d have been fine if flight was never introduced (I prefer ground mounts, there is much more variety) but when they did it makes the aforementioned zones bearable. I’m still not sure why it’s not in Draenor, that’s two expansions ago. And we don’t get an LFR satchel anymore either, which is weird, because like I said it was two expansions ago. This game is all messed up. Good interview though! Glad someone knows what’s up. Do your WQ’s “on an egg timer,” log out or possibly level an alt is not what the company should want. I can only cap so many classes before I’m just done.

Indeed, I just think that Blizzard is either incapable of producing great games because they live in their own bubble now, or they’re not really the right people for the job.

i think its just that the game got too big (too many quests, expacs, dungeons, raids, bgs, achievements, etc… it’s gigantic). the problem arises in the fact its a mmorpg. if they stopped at the end of wrath and made wow2, that would’ve split the playerbase in half, half of which wouldve stay on the original, and the other half going for wow2. at the time, it probably seemed smarter to just make another expac and another and another, etc.

thats why i think that classic coming out might be the perfect opportunity to wrap a wow2 into the game without angering the playerbase and with older fans coming back that had long ago unsubbed, there’d be plenty of new players to go around.

Sounds daunting on the surface, but it’s a creative persons jackpot if you have a mind to use that content in a way that’s truly awesome.

Therein lies the problem, I feel Blizzard and the present creative development team are too hyper focused on a single aspect of game play and that’s high end PVE only…

Anything outside of that is essentially ignored and let languish.
