Beyond Naxxramas

Once a full #nochanges run of Classic is finished all the way up to Naxx, I would personally love to see some of the loose ends tied up from back then. There was SO much content that was planned to be released back in Vanilla that either never saw the light of day, or was pushed back to a later expansion and not done proper justice. Hyjal and the Emerald Dream for example. Hyjal was pretty alright back in Cata, but it would be great to have it as a 60 zone in Classic. The Emerald Dream on the other hand was never given proper attention and I feel this could be a huge addition after Naxx as a whole world like a mini Outland with dungeons and raids.

Now, making the GIANT assumption that current day Blizzard would be able to create this content while preserving the spirit of Classic gameplay, what are your thoughts on a full #nochanges run all the way up to Naxx and then loose ends being tied up afterwards?

Blizzard adding new content, even if you call it “loose ends being tied up,” would still be…new Blizzard content. They have no magical means to avoid their new content from being as bad as what’s in Modern, because they don’t even understand why Modern’s bad.

I wanted Classic. I continue to want Classic. Not “Blizzard’s other developing, ‘improving’ game called World of Warcraft.”

For the sake of the thread, I’m assuming Blizzard could competently create the content. If they could create additional content while preserving the spiirt of Classic, would you want it?

on a separate server type? sure. on the servers currently out? no.

They could take the runescape approach. split it a different path. after Naxx I always thought should have been WOTLK, we could do bc after, then legion. But keep it vanilla like.

I want Wotlk servers with loads of changes (just nothing to do with character power, leveling speed, or class balance)

Just fun stuff like Transmog, Heirloom tab, mount tab, New darkmoon faire, And a completely new holiday event system where we go to westfall to celebrate hallowsend and go on the haunted hay ride into duskwood and Shoot zombies from the hay ride. The gun you get scales with your characters stats so the more geared you are the more dps and zombies you kill.

You can bring Bud to be the hayride driver as he says “oooooOo scary” instead of “oooo shiny” as blizzards way of going “YOU SEE THIS DO YOU REMEMBER THIS FROM CATA REMEMBER THIS! I DEMAND YOU”

there should be classic+

anyone suggesting otherwise denies classic its greatest potential, which is a leadership role in the market for RPGs that are closer to their roots of pen + paper + imagination.

that market has been eroded since the mid-late 2000s, and it directly informs the fatigue RPG fans have with everything from modern WoW to modern bioware

If they add stuff after Naxx, it won’t be Classic anymore.

Classic will no longer exist.

Is that an objectively bad thing?

I want to play BC again. I loved vanilla and am enjoying experiencing it again but BC shines the brightest for me. Just as there were classic sceptics, the BC sceptics will exist but when it comes it will knock our socks off.

All they’d need to is make it L60 content. Without a level cap increase, there’s no need to screw up game mechanics. The worst that could happen is the loot would outstrip everything else, but without an increased level cap, even that isn’t too much of a risk. The most likely mistake they’d make is to create loot intended to fix underperforming specs.

What a bizarre thing to care about, much less enough to want to sacrifice the actual game people begged for for years for.

Well, gee, let me think. Did people spend years begging Blizzard to “do something else sort of vaguely like the pre-expansions version of the game”?

Classic tbc, therefore heroics, karazhan, gruuls etc

This 100x, I love classic but tbc is the peak wow experience imo

Take your passive aggressive idiocy elsewhere. I’m asking legitimate questions about what people would want after the Classic experience is over (which it will be one day unless something else happens).

classic, OSRS, DoS2, and others have become leaders in a market for old RPG gameplay in contrast to, say, what The Elder Scrolls evolved into. the value in classic is ultimately in that gameplay, not in being just a recreation

the only thing that is bizarre is the belief blizzard should just ape a private server when it has the chance to make a greater impact

you would rather have this market be a museum instead of a legitimate parallel to mainstream RPG formula. this is a good way to ensure the latter wins out again

Classic+ will not be a thing, and we didn’t need another thread on it.

This. It doesn’t matter what the content is as long as the gameplay remains true to Classic. You could add content after Naxx that is designed the same way as the rest of Classic and guess what? You would like it, because it plays the same way as the rest of Classic that you loved.

EDIT: This is mostly a response to the guy you responded to. I’m just using your quote to frame my response since it’s spot on.
