I think the current corporate-sounding term itself is a good portion of rage-inducement, even if the “contract” itself is well-intentioned.
If there was a better name for “Social Contract” that you’d rather see, what would it be?

Social Credit
Decency Pact
Or
The “Be Cool” Accord
How about not getting hung up with the name and maybe read the content.
Terms of Engagement.
I don’t agree with you so I’m going to report you feature.
It’s not a corporate-sounding term though. Probably no one has ever drafted a legal document and titled it “social contract,” which is why it also doesn’t read like an actual contract. A “social contract” is a thing from philosophy.
Terms of service would probably suffice, but def agree they made it sound so similar to something else by a certain government.
the soul exchange
It is. “Social Contract” is often a term used by corporations to show what they deem are their “responsibilities” towards society and how they’re benefiting society.
“Stop acting like a moron, volume 94” for a name may not have quite the desired effect for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on…
I can’t think of a better name but agree that it reads/sounds off.
It feels like something New Age or something parents might write up for their kids.
Even those two words together feel like a trap; the two don’t go together – unless it is designed as complete baloney in the first place. It suggests Behavior Policing and that is as ugly as the KGB in the Cold War.
Better name for it would be “It’s the same TOS but in a new format”
Better name would be “we’re doing this as a pr stunt because we wanna place the blame on the playerbase for what we did”
Basically it is TOS-lite. Or TOS Cliff Notes.
“A Document On How To Not Be A Jerk On The Online Space”
…Granted I guess that’s a heckin’ lot of words at once…
Not even joking, I think this would have been much better.
how is it blaming the playerbase for anything?
You know blizz they’ll take any chance they have to make us at fault for their screw ups.
Or they got a bunch of feedback about how, because of Blizzard’s laissez-faire approach to rule enforcement, the WoW community is ultra toxic compared to WoW’s largest subscription-based competitor (FFXIV) and this is part of their effort to do something about it.
It is ridiculous that some people think that because some now former Blizz employees did sexual harassment, they aren’t allowed to tell you to follow the terms of service anymore!
