(BETA) Dragonflight Priest Talent Tree Feedback Thread

except they aren’t touching DA/VF. It’ll be a 10.2 problem, maybe 10.1.5 if we’re lucky. (not holding my breath, not my first time playing shadowpriest). Either way, I don’t care, pick one of them and roll with it. I don’t understand all these priests crying about voidform when DA is the same problem.

Shadow crash should be uncapped and hit everything with VT, and you spec misery. 2 talents to make aoe spread ok… Which is a 1 talent option for warlocks. Thanks.

Dark void should be our aoe spender for 50 insanity + blows up any existing nzoth stacks (or you know, interacts with our capstone idols) (ysharj makes baby shadow fiends… yogg procs + cleaves… Cthun summons big noodle mid pack that does a twirly and smacks all mobs for a slow+dmg)… that kinda stuff. Also making our st spender DP interact in a similar fashion would make you know, our talent choices more impactful and controllable.

Revert mind sear to be our aoe generator that has % chance to trigger apparitions.

Agreed remove Damnation / move to pvp.

Void torrent (please give mind flay the glyph to look like torrent) should be a pop and keep chugging along, like our 4 set tier gear right now, summon a shadow that channels it for us and we can keep up our rotations and dots, or just remove it.

I’d rather lose void torrent than shadowmend or mind games.

Remove mind spike. There you go no more button bloat. Bake dmg back into mind blast and mind flay.

Also fix mass dispel (and give it ability to dispel disease + for talent in class tree remove curse/poison), give interrupt to my healer brothers, bake dispersion and silence into shadow spellbook if you refuse to give to class tree, cause there’s 0 reason we need to do this for spec tree. Speccing for lower CD/Stun sure.

Sorry just started writing and just kept ranting, but the first half is pertinent :stuck_out_tongue:

The current Iteration of Disc in PVP will play EXACTLY like legion except with less and I guess it will NEVER be improved on and every excuse will be made to explain it away and they will probably blame PVP and PVPers being toxic after that as a PR counter-offensive strategy. They will do anything before doing work on the priest class they hate us.

0 new buttons
Infact less buttons than we had previously and less options
Nothing new if they prune the spells they said they would

I’m sick of seeing people die during my pre-dome’s in the arena (had thug cleave kill my rogue even tho I dome’d him at 100% HP last night) . I want us to get a button like vitality conduit not that stupid void shield trash.

I hate void shift always have it’s not fun, it’s got very few skilful interactions and it’s just a lame spell.

Everyone is going to play wrath - at least we have mana burn and no CD mass dispel all our important buttons don’t require a GCD.

The best change they could make is just getting rid of the people doing the trees.

I really wish they just did more cohesive reworks instead of bringing more problems from the past over.

New trees is a great step
Next step would of been reworks to fix the classes.

At this stage, I prefer thar every class does not get everything. But if we are going to keep on this route and supply every spec with mobility, cc, interrupts, self healing, etc, then no class should be left out for w.e bs reason you can come up with.

The new talent tree revamp is probably the most complex thing they’ve done ingame in a decade, but it’s something they’ve been kicking the can down the road on. The borrowed power systems were basically put in place as a bandaid fix to button/talent bloat issues. Every expansion you would replace 1-2 buttons with a new ability. Just as players it sucked because you were depowered massively each expansion.

Like going into Dragonflight were losing dual legendaries, tier set bonus, and covenant abilities, but they also massively increased the iLvl on the Lvl 70 stuff compared to current season (almost 100 iLvl difference). It’s done deliberately to make sure people aren’t hanging onto old gear in the new raid tiers and also to make you not feel like you’re doing less dps.

The eventuality though is if every new expansion adds more to the talent trees than eventually it’ll become bloated… like 2-4+ expansions from now. Take a look at the WOTLK talent tree compared to classic.

The Metroid effect.

I don’t think we need a new twist on classes every xpac. We just need good compelling content to play through.

Another take on the Priest Class Talent Tree.

I have taken the last Bluepost into consideration and I have tried to modify things that I think would be a middle ground in regards to what Blizzard wants vs what the players want.

Priest Class Tree

Priest Class Tree (Readable)

Key takeaways…

  • General Pathing changes and node relocating and…
  • Shadow Mend (Replaces Flash Heal)

    • I think Shadowmend should replace Flash heal and have its cooldown removed. I think it should heal at least x2 Flash Heal and have an increased mana cost of something like 20-50%.
  • Translucent Image / Phantasm: Moved them back into a choice talent

    • I think this should stay a compelling choice while allowing more points to be spent somewhere else.
  • Shining Force / Silence (NOT A CHOICE NODE, THIS WOULD BE A MECHANICAL CHANGE LIKE THE WARRIORS WEAPON TALENT BASED ON SPEC)

    • Holy, Discipline (Shining Force) (REDESIGNED AS AN INTERRUPT)
      45 sec cd
Burst the target with light, knocking them back and interrupting their spell cast preventing any spell in that school from being cast for 3 sec.
    • Shadow (Silence)
      45 sec cd
Silences the target, preventing them from casting spells for 4 sec. Against non-players, also interrupts spellcasting and prevents any spell in that school from being cast for 4 sec. Upon successful spell interruption, Silence cools down 100% faster.
      • Silence will now have a skill shot cooldown reduction built in that only works on PvE targets
  • Angelic Feather / Body and Soul: Moved them back into a choice talent

    • They are both movement speed increases. Neither help with displacement or movement impairing effects.
  • Shackle (Renamed from Shackle Undead): Shackles the target undead or Aberration enemy for 50 sec, preventing all actions and movement. Damage will cancel the effect. Limit 1.

    • Allows the ability to also Shackle Aberrations.
      Aberration

The most well known are faceless ones, oozes, sludges, and void creatures.

  • Door of shadows / Spectral Guise
Added Door of Shadows for a Displacement ability. Added Spectral Guise as a (Choice). This allows PvP to be a real choice between more mobility OR more survival. Both have a 2 min Cooldown. So now they cant be used as often (since Spectral Guise was 30 sec CD) and blizzard don’t want them to be “loosing target frames” that often. So I think 2 min is a good middle ground.

  • Petrified: Targets of your Psychic Scream now tremble in place instead of fleeing in fear and is no longer capped to a maximum of 5 targets.

    • Added Petrified as a choice with Psychic Voice. Removed Target cap for PvE as in PvP you most likely want the player to fear / run away from you and do it more often. So the uncapped fear target amount wont be abused that much and if it is, a Mass Dispel / Tremor totem can remove it fast since no one would be running around.
  • Twisted Faith (Added Twisted Faith as a (Choice) with Twins of the Sun Priestess to be an option to not be forced to be balanced around Twins. Haste and duration values can be adjusted as needed.

    • Holy
Successful cast of Holy Fire grants haste for duration.
    • Discipline
Successful cast of Penance grants haste for duration.
    • Shadow
Successful cast of Devouring Plague grants haste for duration.
  • Inner Focus
    Instant 3 min cooldown
When activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next 3 spells by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is capable of a critical effect.

  • Renewed Bulwark
Your Power Word: Shield has a 50/100% chance to apply a 6 sec renew to your target or extend the current renew by 6 sec and each tick of renew restores 20% of the Power Word: Shield absorb value while the shield holds.

    • This would now lean more into the Holy side of enhancing Power Word: Shield. Replacing Light’s Inspiration
  • Crystalline Reflection: Power Word: Shield absorb amount is increased by 10/20% and instantly heals the target for (42% of Spell power) and reflects 10/20% of damage absorbed.

    • Wanted to make this talent a bit better as a choice for Shadow/Holy by increasing its base absorb amount as well.
  • Void Shield (Relocated and gave it a bit more power by doubling its effectiveness with it being a 2 point talent now): When cast on yourself, 30/60% of damage you deal refills your Power Word: Shield.

  • Angelic Bulwark (Buffed with self ONLY damage reduction from Power Word: Shield): When cast on yourself, Power Word: Shield grants 10% damage reduction and When an attack brings you below 30% health, you gain an absorption shield equal to 15% of your maximum health for 20 sec. Cannot occur more than once every 90 sec.

Welp, PTR got updated - Shadowmend is gone.

In its place, there’s ‘improved flash heal’ to increase FH healing by 15%, and the Masochism choice node turned into a flash heal choice node with the same effects (minus the HoT for Shadowmend). These were also moved to the left side

Improved Flash Heal is now where Leap of Faith used to be. The new masochism node is where Move With Grace was (below leap), Leap of Faith is now where angelic feather was, angelic feather moved to where body and soul was, body and soul moved to where psychic voice was, and psychic voice moved into shadowmend’s old node.

This means for Disc/Holy we’ve just got a 10% mitigation by self flash healing, I guess. Also is a straight buff to Holy’s healing, I suppose.

For Disc, Shadow Covenant got 0 changes, so is back to being near-useless.

There were also a couple talent renames (Shadowflame Prism → Inescapable Torment for Disc, Tools of the cloth → Words of the Pious)

Dominate mind got it’s CD reduced to 30s, so a humanoid can be perma MCed as your pet now.

Couldn’t see any other real changes besides that.

So it looks like overall, just a nerf to Disc/Shadow PvP. A buff to Holy overall (lmao), and a nerf to Disc dungeon healing.

A pretty yikes change that is honestly how I expected it to go.

If shadowmend is to not exist, flash heal needs to feel good baseline for any other spec to want to cast it. If flash heal feels good baseline, holy benefits because it has more flash heal modifiers and needs to play with it for lightweaver. So flash heal can’t be buffed too much.

Blizz created a terrible design space for themselves here, I think.

Also for anyone curious - Shadow does not get Shadowmend in its class tree either (which is probably a good thing for the tree overall), meaning they now no longer have any self healing except for Vamp Embrace unless they leave shadowform.

Just on Depth of Shadows vs whatever the new name is that buffs Flash Heal the same way:

Depth of Shadows was exciting because it was attached to a heal on a CD. I could do my regular Disc business, do triage with Flash Heal, then bust out a massive Shadowmend when it’s needed.

When it’s attached to my only spammable single target healing spell, I’m pretty much never going to see that buff get anywhere higher than 5 stacks. It’ll be so minimal as to be completely lost in the noise most of the time.

It’s called from darkness comes light or something like that :stuck_out_tongue:

Granted, I still think it’s a good talent when it comes to gaining stacks, since we’ll do a lot more healing via atonement/renew/PW:S, and purge the wicked spreads quick now. But it certainly loses a lot of value by the fact that Flash Heal is just a significantly weaker heal. Even with the talent, it’s at 233% spellpower. Shadowmend was at 352% when they removed it. So really at MAX stacks it’ll heal slightly less than what Shadowmend was healing baseline last build.

Edit: It’s not really a good talent - I wanted to clarify that what I meant by that is you’ll still get pretty big boosts from it. Just it’s really not a good spell to be buffing.

so if i saw on the latest updates it has vamp embrace removed are we getting something in its place?
Edit im not defending vamp id rather something cooler to be there I’m just curious what’s going in that slot

Vamp embrace is still there.

The cool thing we got this build is Dominate Mind became uh, kinda good now?

It’s now a 30s mind control but also a 30s cooldown. So should be able to perma MC a humanoid if you spare the globals/mana.

That’s still awkward as hell to use, but I mean it should be powerful, especially for healing priests.

Edit:
Further testing on Dominate mind - It’s absolutely possible to keep a perma MC. The pet’s damage does not count toward atonement. But that does mean we have some really interesting applications in dungeon.

So these Priest general changes were small, but pretty big.

Improved Flash Heal is where Leap of Faith was and you have to take it to node down. I think the biggest thing to note is they moved the node over from the previous Shadow Mend branch so you can take the talent so when you Flash Heal yourself you take -10% less damage for 10s. It also triggers off of Trail of Light. That’s honestly kind of big… you can keep a near persistent -10% damage reduction up on Holy on-top of the fade talent giving you a -10% damage reduction for 10s (bugged and not working atm).

Also, the Improved Flash Heal talent helps fix the throughput loss on Holy from having to cast Flash Heals more often due to how Lightweaver works. I’m pretty sure Flash Heal is going to get adjusted though.

Dominate Mind being on a 30s cd is also a really big change as well. You can basically thrall a creature an entire dungeon run and it makes the ability not useless like it was before. This is definitely going to be a very unique Priest utility buff.

Divine Word also has a description. It’s also pretty insane. +50% increased single target damage and smite has a 40% chance to cast Holy Fire.

I kinda expect dominate mind to be nerfed, but hope it goes through because that is some seriously cool utility despite the maintenance of recasting it all the time.

Though, the entire shadowmend->flash heal rework is a dumpster fire for any spec that isn’t holy or PvE and needs to be re-looked at.

I’m probably over-reacting, but I’m trying to rationalize why I would ever play Disc in PvP at this point over Holy for healing. Pain Sup and Dome don’t really seem worth it vs the number of useful abilities that Holy gets.

Holy has also been nerfed a lot though in arenas.

Disc doesn’t really have anything to speak of in arena right now though.

Trinity kinda sucks considering it only can be applied through PW:S which has a CD now.

Holy now has the burst advantage because of Empyreal, divine word, burning vehemence - and PvP is all about burst right now. They’ve also got the healing throughput advantage and Disc no longer has dual-spell schools so it can’t hold that over holy either.

Also I very much expect that trail of light thing to be a bug. If it’s not Blizzard is out of their minds.

I don’t think it’s a bug because Inspiration also triggers off of Trail of Light as well. Technically you get a -15% DR on yourself…

Im finiding with this iteration im lacking many interesting choices which is dissapointing. Im having less damn i really want that and that but cant, esepcially in the class tree

Says this for Mastermind…

Category changed from Talents to Uncategorized

No longer in the talents and doesn’t appear as a baseline class/spec ability.

Anyone know where this is at? It doesn’t say it was removed so its interesting as I like Mastermind but not sure where we get it at.
