Best Ranged for Evading Melee

Hey all, the least fun I have in this game is playing a ranged that just gets sat on by melee the whole time. I thought BM Hunter was the answer to my problem since most of their damage is instant and can kite and move around fairly easily while still pumping some OK damage. Long story short I didn’t find this true.

What classes have the most tools to control melee in BGs and world PvP? I’m thinking of dusting this guy off and playing frost. Only ranged I don’t have is a priest.

Warlocks are a pain in the butt for me. Constant cc. Fear spamming, slowing, howling, minions doing the same crap.

At first I was confused why a Mage is asking which ranged is the best to kite melee and then I realized why…

I don’t have much experience playing Hunters but I would think they’re near the top of the list.

Now sure how this is relevant as I stated in my post I’m thinking of dusting off the mage because I acknowledge this may be one of the best classes. Reading is hard

I love my frostie as we tend to be very slippery which just ticks off melee to no end. haha

They think you’re trolling because Gnome mage is probably one of the best class/race combos for kiting melee.

Saw your other post, I’ll agree that Arcane is one of the best kiting specs.
Either BM and MM are good, with BM being stronger.

I also find Elemental, Shadow, and Balance great for kiting in bgs.

i enjoy my hunter freezing trap and disengage are good for keeping away melee you have cheetah and turtle as well.

bm hunter is pretty good for staying away.

I just went up against an arcane mage in ssm on my dk. Guy was uncatchable.

Arcane or Frost are both great against Melee.

Gnome is good for escape artist, so you’re set.

Although you don’t see them much, I imagine Kul Tiran with Haymaker is nice with its long knockback and stun.

It’s not my reading that’s the problem small-fry, strike one!

you are playing the one

IMO in order from strong (ones I have more trouble with) to weaker:

  • mage
  • destro/demo lock
  • hunter / boomie (gotta be good at kiting though)
  • elem shammy / spriest (need to be great at CCs/defensives, should be able to escape towards help if needed)

arcane mage is probably the best bg ranged spec in theory but nobody plays it.

From all the ranged casters I’ve seen the skill cap (ceiling) is really high on a Balance druid. The rotation/spells are dumbed down from what it used to be but if your goal is just ‘evading melee’ it’s one of the best.

Just off the top of my head you have:
stealth,
roots,
clone,
bash/aoe root,
ne smeld if horde/warstomp if tauren,

Since you mention bg and world pvp I would rank NE balance druid with engineering as the most evasive caster. I don’t usually play balance in wpvp but when I do I spec Renewal, I have engineering, Celestial Guardian/Ironfeather Armor talents, Thorns/Faerie Swarm, etc. so I never die.

The talent choice isn’t optimal but you can also Force of Nature + Shadowmeld for luls. When flying comes in Shadowmeld becomes even better. It’s already the master pvp race.
