Threat is the gas pedal of the raid. The more threat a tank can put out, the harder the other DPS can go, the faster the boss dies. Easier on the healer’s mana, easier on the schedule, better for the progression. A small amount of health is negligible. Just like a lot of things, TPS wasn’t the “meta” in the old days. It certainly is now with better players, better understanding, and more thorough testing of what, “works”. A tank doesn’t need more survivability than is necessary to survive a hit before a heal comes out, and there’s cooldowns for anything else.
Set bonuses are very different. A bonus to weapon skill gives some bonus TPS, but it depends entirely if the tank can shave off defensive strength for more threat. I doubt we’re going to be seeing the dual wield tanks any time soon, but if we can manage it, it will provide faster boss kills.
Err, the two best weapons in game for Fury are swords, and Blood Fury is piddly. Human also gets to use a weapon with an extra hit% and crit% and 26 AP instead of +6 weapon skill (unless they want that).
I mean yeah, Windfury is great for sure, Salvation is also nice to allow them to go harder… but most of the best one handers are swords. That’s the point. The only axes that immediately pop into my head is the Edge of Chaos from Nefarian and the HoSB from Noth. There are a lot more swords sprinkled in.
Blood Fury is also base AP, so it doesn’t scale, and it’s not usable if there’s raid damage.
the only dps affecting racials are
Sword/Mace Spec
Axe Spec + blood fury
Berserking
Sword/Mace spec(when using sword/mace) > Blood fury > Berserking > Sword/Mace spec(when NOT using sword/mace)
hence why Orc is the best for any weapon not a sword/mace, using dagger/fist/axe or anything other than sword/mace and orc becomes stronger.
its not a big increase but it is an increase which is why its still the best.
I was not looking at raid buffs or anything just racials.
This is all hypothetical and if the characters are geared the exact same. Which that isn’t normal. It’s more of a faction choice/where are your friends going choice. And choosing a race due to that minor of a difference…meh, rather care about if I like my character’s animations and model than that. However, I will have a human mage alt.
That’s if your a main dps warrior. For a tank they can do Human or Night Elf and be fine. Or even Dwarf. Don’t think I’d be a Gnome.
I’d agree if you’re min/maxing and solely rolling warrior to chart top then you’ll want to go Human if you’re Alliance.
You can be any race and do fine. If you’re looking to min/max, you want to be human no matter what. The dodge isn’t as good as the extra TPS in all honesty.
For PvP though, Gnome and Dwarf are both good against different classes.
Nah, Humans hand down for tank too. +5 Racial is too big to pass up especially for a tank who is getting full benefit of reduced chance to be blocked, parried, and dodged since they always attack from the front. Not to mention dodge is the worse of the mitigation stats for warriors. Add in the glancing blow damage penalty reduction and its a no brainer. Human = Best melee race in game.
The dodge racial becomes better late game like Naxx, but that’s a long time if you’re a min/max. And warrior threat is good, but not the best in-game. It’s why the old “wait for 3/5 sunders” was meme’d so hard.
