As a nearly permanent solo player, with multiples of every class at 70, my recommendations:
Monk
Pally
Druid
Hunter
DH
DK
All of them are viable soloers, and most of them either have good self healing in a pinch or a way out of combat if it gets too hairy (hunter).
My monk can do just about anything. Tank spec has strong self healing and absorbs and a big execute with touch of death. Combine that with the right gear and you are a solo god. Pick up, since it all just costs bullion anyway that we are stocked up on, a big dps trinket with a use effect and pair that with tod and you can eat a huge chunk of anything.
Dps mode does really good damage while being fairly survivable. Heal spec gets you into a group if you feel like it. And unlike a druid you get to see your character.
I will say if you do old world stuff, one huge benefit for a druid, if you also take engineering, you can go pretty much anywhere near instantly between druid ports and engineering ports, and you get stealth too.

Hunter, warlock, any tank. I’d probably put druid at the top of the tank list because you also get cat form for moving super fast while being stealthed.

Druid. I quest in bear form and group as Balance. I love being a tank that can also be a ranged. Only classes that come close are Hunter and Warlock but Guardian Druid beats them both IMO.

I love collection quest you can do in flight form while the ground pounders have to fight the mobs.
Why would you come to play this game solo? Welcome back, solo raiding is gonna be a thing in TWW.

I play all classes solo, so everything is somewhat viable. However, some are more fun than others.
Beastmaster hunter (durability is down slightly from the past and complexity is a bit up, but great manoeuvrability and a pet that takes most of the damage). It’s just all-around fun to play.
Protection paladin (very hardy, very forgiving of errors; main downside is that if you do decide to dip your toe in group content, the tank is expected to lead)
Frost mage (a surprisingly tough “squishy” character that can kite their way out of most problems)
The main class I struggle with is rogue. It seems very dependant on combos and split-second reactions and is extremely squishy if you fail to time defensives properly.
Druid is the class I’m most disappointed that I don’t enjoy more - with four specs and all three roles covered, it seems like the most versatile class. But I find none of the specs really click with me.

This response. All of those are my go to choices since im a hermit. In all honesty i would put demo warlock before bm hunter because while you can play bm hunter with 5 buttons you can actually play a demo lock with 4. Less if you do extensive macros.
For both classes you can do really well with a single target and a aoe macro.
Druid because you got all 4 forms of combat on one character.
(tank, heals, Ranged dps, melee dps)
the OPTION is there to solo any part of the content.
a BM hunter can kinda do decently well in solo content but will hit a brick wall when it comes to trying to do any group content. like dungeon ques.
and if you want to have some solo fun, like soloing a Mythic Dungeon. its “usually” necessary to be a tank. in the past where M0 wasnt all that dangerous though, a Hunter could solo them. which is how the hidden mount was found in shadowlands. a mount that only appears IF you solo the dungeon.
Aside from the oft mentioned Tank or Healer role for fast queues, the question regarded solo play. Hunter is always a great option, but the rotation can feel extremely stale after a while. I would suggest you try a demonology warlock. Not only do we have a minion for every occasion, but we have a cooldown that grants us a nearly instant summon, should our minion die. In addition, we have some utility that hunters do not.
A lot depends on your own play style and preferences.
Do you like to keep your distance from enemies? Like you say, Hunter is the obvious pick, since your pet can tank for you. Warlocks can kinda do this, too, with one of their summoned demons.
But maybe up close and personal is more your style. That’s true for me, which is why I’ve rolled Prot Paladin for lo, these many years. I’m an unstoppable juggernaut of justice, and I get to throw my shield like Captain America. What’s not to love?
Well, not everyone’s into the whole paladin thing. But that’s OK, there’s a bunch of other tanks to choose from. Prot Warrior, Brewmaster Monk, Guardian Druid, Blood Death Knight, and I may have missed one. Grizzled soldier, drunken Kung-Fu master, freaking WERE-BEAR, or armor-plated undead; one of those is likely to appeal to you.
The thing to remember about Tank-Fu, though, is that you’re not gonna burn down mobs at record speed. If your gear is even halfway decent you can pull whatever you want, but you’ll be a hot minute taking them all down. Again, this is where the Prot Paladin shines, we’ve got a pretty good AoE toolkit based around Consecration.

Assuming you’re interested in specialising in just one spec, then BM Hunter or Warlock.
If you’re after a bit of versatility then Paladin, Druid or Monk.
These are the three easiest classes to solo for me…
- BM hunter
- Destruction warlock
- Protection paladin
If you are looking to do perhaps more difficult soloable content in TWW like delves than I’d pick 2 (just I think they have more self-heal options than BM hunter). Protection paladin would be ok too for more difficult content - just I’ve seen forum comments from the alpha test that delves are easier if not tanking.

I find Guardian Druid to be the easiest and most efficient.
Warlock > Hunter. More spec options, better healing for yourself and your pet, more CC, more transmog options, just cooler.

I am a solo player and, after Hunter, I would say Warlock.
I want to say Feral Druid because I love my cat but it can get boring if you aren’t hooked on being a cat and ripping out someone’s innards.

Druid, hands down. You can play any role, there are very few fights you can’t solo that other classes can, you can stealth past stuff you don’t want to deal with, you have good movement… So many up sides. The only thing any class has over druid is DH and Evoker’s ability to cover horizontal distance in the air for non-flight exploration.
I honestly would say druid:
Range melee tank and heals
Great for farming
Fast
Stealth
Water form with speed if u talent
And im sure there is more
