Well, I think it’s less like naming a car or ship than it is like naming a deity. Beledar is the reason their entire civilization is allowed to exist, after all.
Not gonna lie, I had at least one foot on that bus. Exodar, Genedar, Beledar … never mind that the same sound can mean vastly different things in different languages.
The grammar is a bit confusing, but I thought either the Emperor named whatever the giant source of light he had visions about “Beledar” or Beledar is itself the Arathi word for “the Emperor’s vision”.
Because giant crystals are always named in WoW. Genedar, Mechanar, Exodar, Xenedar… Beledar. The Arathi Emperor is probably a Draenei posing as an elf.
This crystal is a huge part of their continued survival thus it makes sense that the denizens would come to revere it enough to personify it a bit.
Also keep in mind the denizens are INSANELY religious by default which practically begs to personify things and let their beliefs balloon up in their minds.
He said from his house on a street that probably has a name, in a borough/suburb that has a name, in a city/town that has a name, in a county/shire that has a name, in a state that has a name, in a country that has a name, on a continent that has a name, on a planet with a name, surrounded by other planets and celestial objects with names.
Spend a few days/weeks reading and going through each one of the deities that has been documented on Wikipedia. I have no idea if this is a comprehensive list but the little I looked at, the list seems comprehensive enough to last you a few weeks at least. Since you gotta look into each and every one of 'em.
Or just accept that people make up names for made up things all the time. In the case of the Arathi, they just named a crystal that they worship as if it is part of their Sacred Flame (I’m saying ‘as if it is’ because I’m not well-versed in TWW’s Sacred Flame lore and what comparisons that it might have to other kind of worships across Azeroth) Beledar and that’s it.
ITT: A bunch of people don’t understand the difference between naming something you build or buy with naming a geographic location or the difference between giving something a personal name that isn’t named after it’s builder, constructor, or discoverer, versus a functional or descriptive name.
Closest thing to an actual answer. I’m not sure how I missed or forgot they came specifically to find the crystal. If that’s so, it might’ve been named in the vision, no? That’s the explanation I’m going with. Visions be whack, yo.
