"Beledar"? Really? Why?

Something’s been bothering me for a while. Why would the Arathi give that giant crystal a proper name like it’s a person? Seems really weird. Why wouldn’t they call it like ‘the suncrystal’ or something?

Why do humans give any Diety names? For example, many religions have given the sun “God” names. Why didn’t they just call it the giant floaty ball of light?

But do the Arathi worship the sun? And sun-worship develops over time. It doesn’t pop up immediately when you take some mole men and force them onto the surface.

They don’t, they worship the sacred flame.

they should call it litebrite.

The Arathi came from the surface, so probably not. But I would be surprised if the native inhabitants of the cave didnt at one point.

I used to give names to really cool sticks I found. Sometimes rocks, but not often.

“Petersen”? Really? Why?

Because I’m a person? A giant glowing rock isn’t a person. Apples to rocket ships.

I call the ceiling light in our kitchen “Lucy”. You know, “Lucy and the sky with diamonds”?
Doesn’t everyone name their lights?

Because giving things a ‘proper’ name means people arent confused when talking about it. Also, it is not always bright and shiny so calling it ‘the suncrystal’ is inaccurate.

Humans do this too IRL, quickest example is Big Ben. Why not call it giant clock tower?

Again though people do this IRL, I’m sure if you ask your friends at least a few of them have named their car.

Not even just structures, but basically every square inch of the Earth has a name associated with it. I’m not sure why the OP is weirded out by the crystal being named when we’ve been naming places/objects for pretty much all of recorded history lol

Not uncommon at all across many cultures historically. They’re also religious zealots, logic isn’t exactly their main guiding purpose.

I named my car.
Personalized plate and everything because I’m that guy. :sunglasses:

Maybe that’s the point. Perhaps there were many different names for it throughout their civilization and that’s the one that stuck. Would you like there to be a specific quest line in game where the naming convention was explained, or do we just run with this one?
